It's not a serious topic. It's a short story.
I'm listening to "Black Letter Days" for first time these days. When I arrived to "21 Reasons" I was surprised about this sentence: "Taken down by a Manta Ray".
EEEEEEEHHHHHHHHH??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!! What? Can this be true? Manta Ray? This is obviously an obsession. Or it could be a password to communicate with some kind of aliens? Maybe Frank is telling them the appropriate moment for a global invasion. What's the relasionship between FB and the Roswell phenomenon?
Later, thanks to your Song Database, I felt stupid. Thanks, guys!!!

As you probably know Manta Ray is about Frank's exposure to a U.F.O.at three months of age.Have you ever heard the live version of Planet Of Sound, from the Brixton Academy,Frank introduces it like this:"If you ever been exposed to a U.F.O.like I Have..."It's been said that people involved in U.F.O. or alien close encounters of the third kind, the men in black will be after you.Frank mentions in the song Men In Black that he is waiting for his visitation although the song is from the perspective of someone that filmed with his camera a cucumber shaped U.F.O.And of course there is the song Motorway To Roswell, which Frank once said that the guy driving many miles to meet the landing aliens could be him.More traces of his fascination with the theme can be found on the first solo album's Parry The Wind High Low.In this song he finds inspiration once again in my home Island of Puerto Rico.He mentions Arecibo which is a town down here were one of the worlds biggest radio telescope space observatory is located. In this facility they conduct the S.E.T.I.(Search For Extraterrestial Inteligence)program. This programs sends messages to the outer regions of deep space to see if they get a response form other living beings that might be out there. You can watch the movie "CONTACT" with Jodie Foster to see this amazing facility and look at Jodie Foster drinking our Puertorrican brand Beer,Medalla!!! |

I considered for a time that the "motorway to Roswell" might actually be IN space, and describe the route that the aliens took. If Frank said otherwise, though, that pretty much blows that theory out of the manta-ray-infested water.

Hey VoVat what you thought is also right! I just talked about Frank's "supposed" role in the song driving to meet the aliens. But Motorway certainly talks about the U.F.O. looking for a friendly star to land."Last night he could not make it""And It came right down"as you might know is the part about the U.F.O.crash in Roswell which ended up in army crates and the alien bodies taken for studies."How can This So Great Turn so Shitty". |

The Vanishing Spies:
"Give me one little blip, And I'll totally flip. Say there's nothing but sky, And I will be one lonely guy."
This is probably the most obvious of Frank's UFO related songs. But I guess it's not about his experience, but "just something he read". |

Actually, that song isn't about UFO's at all. It's about man-made satellites (Voyager I and II, i think) that are the only man-made inventions to ever leave our solar system. They are supposed to be like "bottles in the ocean" of space, and they include different diagrams and engravings depicting our solar system and human beings, in case said probes ever reach an intelligent alien civilization. Those two satellites are the "Vanishing Spies"...

Hey VoVat and all other forum members..I'm sorry I mixed the song The Happening with Motorway to Roswell.I work at the public library in my town and I didn't have my references with me.The Happening is the one where Frank said he might be the guy driving to meet the aliens which he heard had landed. He drew inspiration for this from Orson Wells "The War Of The Worlds" transmission.Although Motorway and The Happening deal with a U.F.O.crash.In the Happening all the aliens died.In the Roswell incident reports it is said that one of the aliens survived. I'm sorry for any confussion this might have caused.I'm only human!!!! |

Where is Area 51, anyway? I'm pretty sure it's not in Roswell, although the two are probably linked in many people's minds.

The beginning of Roswell could be understood in many ways : "Last night he could not make it, he tried hard but he could not make it".

Monterray the city, not manta ray. I believe the song is about Spanish Missions along the Camino Real in CA.
