just wondring about this.
i almost hope they do overlap to aid in cutting down the insane crowd.
usually the sets all overlap, and the main stage bands are playing simultaneously. or at least overlapping. but would they do that with these two bands?
if anything, hopefully the strictly-Radiohead people will all stake a place in front of the main stage, like freaks (and like i'll be doing for the Pixies) to cut down on the extra bodies.
i'm looking forward to it, no doubt. but on the flipside.. with 80,000 people it could be potentially nightmarish. |

With all the praise that the Pixies seem to get from Radiohead it would be even cooler, as at some festivals with some bands, if Thom or Johnny would get up on stage with the Pixies. Thank about it. I have Radiohead on stage with REM from one of the Tibetan Freedom Fests.

Since they're both headlining, won't they both play on the main stage? I agree though, that would be awesome to see Thom and Jonny get up there with the Pixies. Or let Frank and Kim get up and sing No Surprises with Radiohead. |

Since they're both headlining it is majorly doubtful that this would happen, especially so since Thom reportedly FREAKED about the Pixies playing before them. If they tried to put 'em together I think he might burst a blood vessel. So would I, as a matter of fact, since I loves them so equally.
I'm campaigning for a slowed-tempo, piano-tastic version of Caribou from Radiohead here, personally. If Black Francis and Thom Yorke dueted, well. They'll be carrying me out on a stretcher if that comes to pass.
Holy shit. The Pixes and Radiohead. And I get to see 'em. HOLY SHIT.

i doubt they'll both play on the main stage. really, there is no "main stage" anyway. just two stages. (and usually a third smaller stage) |

I don't see any way that they won't both play on the main stage. |

Why would Thom freak that the Pixies are before them? Is he afraid to loose his audience if they do overlap or perform at the same time? Or is he pissed thinking the Pixies should be Headliners and not them? Even if they overlap, Radiohead can still run up for an early Pixies song then head off to the Main stage.

someone correct me if i'm wrong, there really is no "main stage". (that's how it was when i went two years ago). there are two stages of roughly equal size. it's not like one is better than the other. they just have multiple stages to cut down on in-between time. so while one band is playing, the other band is setting up etc..
sometimes they overlap though. when i saw Belle and Sebastian there a few years ago, the Fu Fighters were playing at the same time) |

Probably more of a "This is freaking unbelievable that the Pixies would play before us!" Not in a negative way. He admires the Pixies greatly

What he said. Radiohead, like most of us, are in holy reverence of the Pixies. Thom said something to the effect of "That's not RIGHT! That's like the Beatles opening for you!" Which, of course, is true.
And I sincerely hope they don't try to make them play at the same time, as they share the spot for Favourite Band EVAAAAR in my fickle lil' heart and there's no way I could choose between them. This is Coachella, not Sophie's frickin' Choice.

there is the main stage, then there is the 2nd stage. the 2nd stage is the same size as the main stage, but with only half the viewing area of the main stage. radiohead and the pixies will both be on the main stage. just as last year you had ben harper preceding the beasties and white stripes preceding the chili peppers. it's considered the headliner stage, so no... the pixies will not be on stage 2 while radiohead is on stage 1, they are both headliners and will be on the "main stage". i do think, however, that kraftwerk will be "headlining" on stage 2 (stage 2 puts it's headliner on 2nd to last instead of last so that the main headliner on stage 1 is truly the "headliner"). i say this because part of their show is their lighting and stage production, and just as last year with blue man group, they will need darkness for their show. with them listed below the pixies on the bill, i would bet money that they will be on stage 2 in the dark opposite of the pixies, just as blue man group was on opposite of ben harper even though they had a huge draw. there, was that confusing enough?

Thanks for the clarification. I wish so badly that I could be there to see this show. They're my 2 favorite bands, too. |

On the note of Radiohead and Pixies playing together- I went to see REM in Vancouver last August and Thom Yorke came out to sing a couple of songs with REM- the next night Michael Stipe came out to sing Kharma Police with Radiohead. Tres Cool...
It would be a treat to see rHead & Pixies do something together! |

About Thom Yorke's quote, I think that when he made it he had just learnt that the Pixies may possibly do Coachella and he did not know they were supposed to headline.
Thom is "happy to be on the [Coachella] bill, but is visibly affected when informed of the Pixies reunion plans to play before them." Thom then goes on to say, "No! That's just not right! The Pixies opening for us is like the Beatles opening for us. I won't allow it. There's no way we can follow the Pixies!" Urb Magazine, November 2003
