Well, what's your story? And how do you explain "Winnie"? I don't think he was from the Winnipeg area, but that's where he ended up.

No, he was from the Hundred Acre Wood. Somewhere in England for sure. I can't explain Winnie, but you can explain Pooh?

BTW, I think Winnie the Pooh is Canadian. Or partially at least.

OK, the bear was Canadian, the author, protagonist, setting and THE TEDDY were English.

The old versions of "Winnie the Pooh" had Christopher Robin as a little British kid. Later, in the newer versions, he sounds totally American.
I think the "pooh" refers to the expression that prudish Brits make when they wish they could say "shit," but find it improper. So, basically it's just there to connotate the exasperated, consternated aspect of Winnie the Pooh. (This is my bullshit answer of the day.) I always thought it was funny that little kids learn to call defacation "pooh" and a beloved childhood icon's name is "Winnie the Pooh." It's basically like saying "Winnie the Turd" to them.

If we're picking nits and we are, pandas also aren't bears. I believe the latest is they're more closely related to raccoons.
How about Bear from BJ and the Bear? They always got the best of Sheriff Lobo. |

They have a statue of the real "Winnie the Pooh" in the Winnipeg Zoo. The name was definitely derived from Winnipeg. I would agree that the stories are English. When I take my daughter up to the Winnipeg Zoo again, I'll take a picture of the story under the statue...and you guys will be eating your words!<Devil Face><Smiley Face>

I seem to recall something about Pooh being called that because that's what he would say when a fly landed on his nose, and something else about Christopher Robin once having had a swan named Pooh. Something like that, anyway.
