Today's random song of the day is Tame.
What do you think of it?
lyrics Got hips like cinderella Must be having a good shame Talking sweet about nothing Cookie I think you're
Tame
I'm making good friends with you When you're shaking your good frame Fall on your face in those bad shoes Lying there like you're
Tame
Uh huh huh
Tame
Black Francis (p) 1989 4-A-D

Awesome song! The chorus explodes, and Frank sings it like he means it. Kinda freaky when I first heard it! And the breathing part at the end is billiant! Joey's guitar sounds like it's getting a good thrashing! :) The B.B.C. version is awesome, as well.

This is one of the songs that went first introduced to the Pixies (via DTTP) i was pretty shocked by. it sounded too hardcore and i wasn't sure if i liked it. However, now, i think it's amazing. one of my favourite songs. it rocks so much. and frank is just showing off how good a shouter he is. whenever i've had the oportunity to shout like that and not feel embarrassed, it sounds gay, haha. |

Great song. I love the line, "Cookie I think your tame" The version on the Brixton concert from '91-92, where Frank is screaming so loud is the best version I've heard.

Definitely the classic Pixies blueprint, but none the worse for it. I love this track, and BF's scream comes into its element here.
Loved it on the Smirnoff ads a while back.

It's a good song on CD. Having seen it live...it may have been my favorite song of the night.

Classic, funky, awesome, freaky, brilliant, awesome, hardcore, amazing, great, classic, good!
Adjectives are often used to help us compare things, To say how thin, how fat, how short, how tall. Girls who are tall can get taller, Boys who are small can get smaller, Till one is the tallest And the other's the smallest of all.

a good heavy breathing part is in pink floyd's "pigs" - from their "punk" album animals (i loooooove it so much):
"and do you feel abused ......."
but there is no similiarity to tame...

classic, with the breathing part in too... did the pixies do that first or had it been done before? there's quite a few bands who have done it since... but yeah, it's almost pixies-by-numbers... it's what they became known for, quiet verse, loud chorus... rock!

Great Adjective Song quote chicken. Probly my fave Schoolhouse Rock tune.
"Next time you go on a trip [doo doo, d-do doo doodle do do] remember this little tip..."
Love that tune and the girl that sung it. Maybe that was a precursor to my infatuation with Kim's vocal stylings... |

I think this song might be slightly overrated. It's good, certainly, but everyone else seems to like it more than I do.

Judging by my name, I obviously love it! A good song to listen to when you're really angry. Very loud. |

The breathing part in this song pretty much gave me the revelation that the Pixies were something special. I mean, what band could pull that off and sound so awesome?
Also, they way Black Francis screams "Taaaaaaame" is the stuff that my musical wet dreams are made of. I love the contrast of mellowness to the screamy, loud catharsis in this song.

why?
i read a thread in which you compared Los Angeles and Tame to support your arguement that frank black (solo) was better than frank black (pixies). theworst songs ever to compare. you said the los angeles chord progression was much better and took longer before itrepeated. but you compared it to tame, which only has like 3 chords. plenty of pixies songs have several more. you also compared the vocal melody. i mean, you're right, tame doesn't have much of a melody, but then there are plenty of songs that do. |

well, actually, the part with Frank singing "I wanna Live In Los Angeles" is just 3 chords: C#, D, and F (though he does play an A in there)
I think this song is amazing regarding the energy and style - It's definitely got a lot of spark to it: the breathing, the extreme dynamics, the male/female harmonies, and I appreciate that but, with all due respect to Frank, this song sounds as though it took about 3 minutes to write, imo.
And yes - there are plenty of songs that have a melody. You can shoot me if "Wave of Mulitation" or "Alec Eiffel" don't have awesome melodies, and I couldn't get "Gouge Away" out of my head if my life depended on it. For this reason, I love the Pixies.
But, it's just, all the really weird chord changes and weird time signatures and complexities in Frank's music, to me, didn't seem to start until he went solo, with a few hints of it in TLM (which is often considered the "worst" Pixies album). I think the whole "spark" of the Pixies (you know, the screaming, the male/female melodies, the crazy vocals, the loudness) is often what gets considered by critics (like Rolling Stone putting Doolittle and Surfer Rosa on the top 500 albums list), and they tend to overlook how many genius complex melodies can be found in the first 2 albums........I learned how to play "Abstract Plain" yesterday and I realized just how amazing it is that someone actually was able to put those chords together with such a genius vocal melody.
But, I do love the Pixies, and saying that FB was more "complex" and "original" was a bit of an overgeneralization.

Probably the most 'Pixies' song, just mising some Spanish and some surf guitar, but even so is brobably the best couple of minutes at suming them up. That said, it's an infuriatingly irritating song, because it wouldn't work if it was longer, but it's soo damn short. By the time it's with you it's gone again. Maybe if there'd ever been an FB&Cs version they could have stretched it just a little.
