Anything planned for pre/post show Victoria? If not, where's a good place close to the venue for pre-show drinks?
Does the Curling Club have alcohol at concerts? Gotta pace myself if there's pre-show drinks AND beer at the show.
I'm going a day early to Victoria. I've been before and know about all the tourist stuff to do, but anyone want to share good places to eat or hang out or unknown treasures that should be explored? (I'm particularly looking for good vegetarian/vegan meal suggestions from the likes of Dave Noisy. ) |

Noisy and I were talking about getting together pre-show. I know Victoria a little bit, but not enough to organize anything. I'm hoping to get there early afternoon, so if you guys come up with something, I'm there. I'm staying at the world famous Paul's Motor Inn, which is a pretty good place for the drinkin'. |

...by the way, I'm the guy on the left in this picture:

if you see me wandering the streets of Victoria or Vancouver aimlessly and want to get a drink or something, say hello. |

My wife and I are headed to Victoria as well (and Vancouver). I'll try to check back tomorrow to see if anything's planned. Hopefully there will be!

Vegan food...someone's winning a lot of brownie points. FB STICKERS FOR ASTRO!! =)
I'm quite partial to Lotus Pond, Buddhist food with a lot of 'fake meat dishes' that almost certainly keep the non-veggies happy.
Rebar is quite tasty if you haven't eaten there several times already. (A little limited in dishes, imo..)
Green Cuisine is also vegan, buffet-style, by weight. Really good desserts and baked items (cookies, muffins, cakes, etc.)
The Fifth St Pub is pretty close to the Curling Club, and is a classy joint. (And i hear they don't cook their fries with meat.) I'd suggest that as another hook-up spot.
We should use another thread for Van tho, rather than plug 'em both in here...

5th Street Pub sounds like it might be a good place to meet up -- especially since it's close to the curling club.

don't forget the mint, they have excellent vegan options on their menus, and they're usually not crowded before 7:00pm. rebar is a zoo around dinner time, and the service is slow. the food is ok. i vote for either the mint or the lotus pound. the latter is a bit cheaper.
vespa- i recognised you from the vic ticket lineup! that day i asked the woman who was with you whether you were from this forum but she didn't know what i was talking about. i just had the feeling it may have been you :)
paul's motor inn is tacky but in a fun way. it's the only place i stayed when i visited vic before moving here. they have a decent diner that i think is open 24 hrs. don't have anything but breakfast there man.
this show is going to be so fucking kick ass. i can't wait!
i have never been to the 5th street pub, where is it? i already have plans for pre-show with the gaggle of friends that are coming with me. but my post show is relatively open. it will be fun to finally meet some of you....

5th St Pub is up by Quadra and Hillside, there's a little tile shop and hairdressers nearby.
It was funny seeing the folks in the lineup who were there for Colin James...

What about places that serve both meat dishes and vegetarian dishes? Half of our group are vegetarians and we're hoping to go out for dinner somewhere with a little more choice than just a veggie burger. Any suggestions for a place that could please everyone? |

I've been trying to gather my boys at Spinnaker's - they have an awesome salad, great drinks.
My other thought was Logan's, also close to the Curling Club and the proprieter is very Pixies friendly.
But I'm game to go anywhere - I'll have greg and zeus with me from this forum, and hopefully a couple of other Wave of Mutilation members and we'll all be just a little more than excited!
Dave I thought 5th St was "bar and grill"...? |

Thanks for the suggestions, Dave and neocalanus!! Do I really get FB stickers?
Besides Fifth St Pub, are the other places near downtown? We're staying at the Traveller's Inn on Douglas--the one we are hoping is closest to the curling club.
I agree Fifth St Pub sounds best for pre-show drinks. However, anywhere is fine. Pre-show drinks doesn't have to be strictly vegetarian related, although I appreciate all of you thinking about it and it would be nice to have some veggie options at the place. I just wanted vegetarian restaurant suggestions for other times since I'll be in Victoria 2 days.

I didn't see your post, notkimdeal, before I posted. You Victoria people know best, so just tell us out of towners where the party's going on! |

I was thinking Lotus Pond for food, then over to 5th St for drinks. (Tho i don't drink..haha)
Not sure if there'll really be enough time for all this tho - what time was everyone thinking of heading over to line up? I was thinking around 6..
Some friends who'll be joining me live close to the pub as well, so i was gonna go their, leave my bike at their place, and hoof it down to the pub, then over to the Curling Club.
And about the food - go where you want, but keep in mind that you can eat meat any time, and that you don't find the consumption of vegetables to be morally offensive. I'm sick of this 'i don't wanna eat a veggie burger' bullshit. Neither of the vegan restaurants in town even HAVE veggie burgers. We're a little more diverse than that.

do we have to line up early? shit! i was planning on being there by 7:30. i have never been to the curling club. are there seats or is it a big hall or what?
if you want good meat and veggi cusine, go to the mint.
i am still looking for a way to post a pic. if you happen to see a short brunette chick with big eyes with lots of green eyeshadow and black clothes, say "hi neocalanus!"
that's pronounced neo-kala-nus, btw.

I'd say not enough time to go to a separate restaurant, so let's just do the 5th St Pub. It's on Hillside, at Quadra, pretty easy to find.
I'll be there between 5:20 and 5:40, then i plan on heading over to the CC around 6pm. Just gonna walk over.
CC is all standing, it's literally a curling centre.
No camera's..i'm not allowed either. =(

Yeah, it's too much to get people organized to go to two places. I'm not sure what me and my husband have up tomorrow, but we'll try to swing by Fifth St Pub before heading to the venue. I hadn't thought about everything starting so early...I need to put some thought into a schedule.
We went to Green Cuisine today. Just the kind of food I was looking for! We might try Lotus Pond tomorrow. We saw it walking around. Thanks again for the recommendations! |

We are headed over find the 5th Street Pub now. We tried to go to Lotus Pond but it was closed from 3-5pm. We walked by the CC earlier (like 2pm) and people were lined up waiting for tickets. I hope they got them. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! The show is soon! |
