Spent a couple of hours trawling through this last week http://www.foundmagazine.com after I saw the address in a Spanish newspaper. My favourite is Yours In Horror in the Notes section.

"You one of those right-wing nut outfits?" inquired the diplomatic Metzger.
Fallopian twinkled. "They accuse us of being paranoids."
"They?" inquired Metzger, twinkling also.
"Us?" asked Oedipa.

Yeah! That's a really cool zine. I love the idea. My favorite one was always:

Another site that has some incredible found stuff is
www.ubu.com at http://www.ubu.com/found_frames.html

it also has a HUGE archive of free mp3s of poetry, spoken word, music, and performance. Some people incuded there (there are hundreds) are Laurie Anderson, John Cage, William S. Burroughs, Bukowski, (trying to think of people I know that others have expressed an interest in here -there are just way too many, so it feels wrong to even say a few) here is the artist index:
http://www.ubu.com/artist_index.html

That is one of the websites that blows my mind. There is no end....

Holy crud! These sites are great! Does anyone here remember my field recording project? Goes along with this and I'll be posting about it some more later.

My pleasure, Newo. It's an incredible website. Are you the writer?

Here's the link to the image that you're wanting to post:

This was found in the sleeve of a 2ndhand Randy Newman record bought in Dublin. It gave me a warm fuzzy one cause when I lived there I wrote a lot of similar waster-missives to flatmates on playing cards, backs of term papers, torn hanks of wallpaper, utility bills and the like.

Yes I'm the writer, apl4eris.

I love that show too, slaveish! It rocked being a Chicagoan and being a member of the station that produces it (WBEZ). Been listening since '97. That's some of the best radio around.

Newo, may I ask what kind of writing you do? Would it be possible for me to read your work anywhere?

My first story online was http://kenagain.freeservers.com/FEB2003ISSUE.HTML and there's one on a Dublin zine http://acorn.dublinwriters.org/EA14/kilfeatherstory.htm
I hang out regularly at a site called The New Absurdist, which I find to be a pretty wonderful creative atmosphere (and a damn fine bunch of people too), so here for you http://www.absurdist.cc/story_event.cfm?id=1427
I have an ebook of short stories coming out in the summer so if it grabs you I can keep you posted, and I'm currently in the trenches on the second draft of a novel. Oh also on www.bizarrebooks.com there's an anthology called A Kick In The Nuts with one of mine on it.

Thank you for all the links. I will be looking through -already started reading "That's All Folks". Do you enjoy www.corpse.org (The Exquisite Corpse - literary journal)? Andrei Codrescu: (another NPR contributor) is a semi-regular columnist there.

Sorry to keep winging links at ya, but this is very interesting. It's good to talk to someone who is self-employed in the creative field. It's incredibly difficult to find a community when you live far outside of a midwestern US city.

I have thought about submitting some writing to online journals, etc., but have been doing much more art and illustration (for someone's book of poetry) lately.

Ok. Had to take care of a few things and come back to it. I very much like "That's All Folks". I look forward to reading the rest!

again, I really love concepts like these. I think we should all start to take pictures of things that we find and post them here for everyone. Just a bit earlier I was eating dinner at the school cafe and I went through a couple of napkins to find this on the third napkin:

I actually know the kid who did this which kind of takes away some of the mystery from this sort of thing but I wasn't there when he wrote it so the surprise was still good. Poor kid's an anarchist but we'll forgive him cause he's just so like-able. He's really into Zines and collages and I respect his dedication to researching conspiracies and lesser known news. I suppose this was just meant to be a little, crazy eye-opener for an unsuspecting cafe frequentor.

I can't access the image - the link doesn't work. Sounds intriguing though. Did you see the "found and insane" art/found items at www.ubu.com, realmean? Good stuff there too - I really like this type of object-art.

Funny thing is, we were going to go to a documentary about Ray Johnson tonight, and we totally spaced it. It is said that he was the first "mail-art' artist, and apparently was an inspirational link between many modern artists - I'm just finding out about the guy, even though I took a ton of Art History classes in college. Very interesting character, it seems. I just discovered weird connections between his life and Spalding Gray's as well, but if I go into it I'm afraid I'll feel a little schizo, heheh.

Here is a little website that has a bit about Johnson -an incredibly enigmatic character:

Thanks very much, Homer´s PM. I had fun with that story and I definitely like it more than I dislike it. Unfortunately, Timmy has shuffled off this mortal coil. I picked him up in a cat shelter and they gave me the sickest one possible cause they couldn´t afford to look after him, they just held out this tiny thing with weeping eyes and nose and raggedy breath and he clambered on my head and they said ´Oh he really likes you´ and I couldn´t bring myself to say no. But I loved him while I had him.

Oh no. Poor Timmy. I think it's really nice that you took him though. It's the needy ones that should go to a home first I think.

That is really neat. I have found stuff in the past that I would have submitted if I would've known about it. We all have, I'm sure.
