Tru, Tru... well I am back and didn't see any sign of life. I did see the blue velvet curtains...maybe what I thought was a sarcastic rumor of David Copperfield opening up is true. Maybe he's going to levitate them higher please!? Yeah right.

I might have caught a fan lurking there too...I am too shy to ask...was that anyone of you guys that was there at about 5:45??

Anyway thanks everyone for the scoops...if we want to catch the show on Monday of the local band at that 2% chance it might be the Pixies...what's a good time to go??? Shoot...it's a great excuse to get out!

I think I'm going to be there tomorrow night...cover's only 3 bucks! and the lingering 'what if' in the air should be kind of fun...

I'm heading off to Minneapolis within an hour. I'd love to go wait in line (or start it rather) when I get there. Dunno if they'll let me.

The Fine Line people were not happy with me being in or near the alley this morning. They would have been less happy with my being in front of the venue. I wouldn't line up until tomorrow night at the soonest, when the band is (presumably) done rehearsing.

Isn't there supposed to be a show going on tomorrow anyway?
(it wasn't listed on the calendar in your photo)

Yeah, that's kind of what I was saying. By 8:00 tomorrow night when the doors are supposed to open for Rocket Equation, the Pixies will probably be done rehearsing. I doubt the Fine Line people would buy the excuse "I'm lining up for Rocket Equation" ... assuming it really is Rocket Equation. Who knows, I'm done speculating!

And the calendar was probably printed (or sent to the printers) before the Rocket Equation show was added. The Fine Line website used to have both tonight and tomorrow night open on their calendar, and didn't add Rocket Equation until a week or two after the Pixies were announced.

Did you get any grief from security? I guess at night it's probably a little easier to be secretive.

Did they practice Letter to Memphis? Gouge Away? No. 13 Baby? Velouria? I hope they play them. Actually, I hope they play their entire catalogue. Twice.

Well, I gotta brag a little... These are the songs we heard:

Subbacultcha
Planet of Sound
Blown Away
In Heaven
Wave of Mutilation
Ed is Dead
Into the White
Tame
Levitate Me

Anyway, we froze our asses off for almost 2 hours and it paid off. I got to meet Frank Black after the rehearsal. Awesome guy, really nice, took the time to sign my copy of Surfer Rosa, and I couldn't be happier. There were 2 other people who were there before us, and they heard Caribou and Velouria.

Sounds like there was more focus on the newer stuff than what we heard today, Solace. But yeah, it's looking like they'll pull equally from all the albums, as they did when I saw them in 1992.

So let me get this straight, there are no shows of any kind tomorrow(monday) night at the Fine Line? Cause if there isn't, why is it still listed on their web site? Are they just gonna let people show up and have to send them away? Doesn't make sense to me.

Screw it, I'm gonna show up anyway.

by all means, show up, just telling you what we were told, that's all. heck i might even swing by myself, i live less than a mile away, on the other side of downtown. just saying that we were told they were closed tomorrow. and i've seen the venue listed as closed other places.

if they rehearse again tomorrow, cool, i don't really care to stand out in the cold (again), but i guess i just do not see there being a show before this first show, it'd seem kinda pointless imo.

So were you guys in the alley? Yeah, the sound was good there, although we had to be sneaky and mostly stay away from the door. Sounds like security might have been a little more lax for you guys?

We didn't encounter security once, but the couple that was there before us did, and they said that they were kinda uptight.

I have no idea, they mentioned reading about the rehearsals in the Star Tribune today, so I'd assume that they don't read the boards here.

it was in the initial article, like 3 weeks ago, stating they'd be rehearsing in town the 2 days before the show

I just read the article a minute ago. All it said was that the Pixies are playing the Fine Line Tuesday and are rehearsing here for a few days. It never actually said they were rehearsing at the Fine Line, so these people must have gotten their information elsewhere.

Yeah, that old article didn't specifically say they'd rehearse at Fine Line, either.

Don't know about that ... maybe. The band has local connections (via Kelley Deal mostly), it's pretty easy to imagine them rehearsing someplace a little more on the DL (a la their space in LA).

I specifically recall them referencing Star Tribune, but I'm not sure what exact article, I'm gonna go with the same belief as solace, that they assumed Fine Line. I guess the may have read something on here too though.
