My friend made me a Elliot Smith compilation and I am wondering what the song that has the chorus which goes, "never gonna know you now but I'm gonna love you anyhow" is called. It also has a part about a girl who's like a chinadoll. Does anyone know what it is? I want to get it on CD and I don't know what to look for.
Also, what CD is a good Elliot Smith starting place? |

ah speedy, my personal life seems to get in the way of my posts.... half the time i'm outta sight but still lookin in...cant believe frank black posted here again, still in awe and semi shock about that. how cool is this forum. i mean the mans an inspiration, buying his cds and watchin him from a far sometimes makes him seem untouchable and too high on that pedestal...but the man is only that.
good to know he reads your opinions and quotes and finds time to reply when necessary. how many other "rock" stars would do that, how many even care?.
and sorry bout a previous post, never doubted ya sexuality...got bit confused with the speedy m....2+2 really did equal 5 that time.

Oh, that's old beans under the bridge, you dirty bastard. And yes, Mr. Frnck Blck is very cool. Just a regular Joe (and he would not quit he would not), and that's precisely why he's so cool. |

Alright Ramona, Ive recently started getting into ES. I only have Figure 8, and that is a great album so I'd say start off with that one. A few people reckon thats his weakest album, which sounds like he was pretty good as it's a cracking listen. It is not difficult to get into either....
As soon as I get ADSL (today hopefully) then I'm going to download like nobodies business!

I'd say my favorite is probably the self titled or either/or. XO is cool but it just doesn't strike me like the other two I mentioned, and I haven't heard more than a few tracks on Figure 8, saving that one now that I know I'll only ever get that and From a Basement on the Hill for new Smith material.

Ahhh, many conflicting opinions. I am not sure what to get now. Which one is Waltz #2 on? I guess I can figure that out on my own.
Thanks for all your thoughts either way. XXX. |

hey no probs ramona. any elliot smith cd will probably be a good one in its own right. didnt mean to force an opinion on anyone, Xo is the album with waltz 2 and if you like that then you'll more than enjoy the others on this album too. take ya pick, you cant lose.
and how guttin and shocked was i when i found out he'd killed himself. his music can be sad but didnt see that comin.. |

I don't know, I had joked about how he seemed like he was going down that road a few times, but was still shocked. I actually expected Blake Schwarzenbach from Jawbreaker and Jets to Brazil to kill himself before Elliott did. Still doesn't really feel like Elliott is gone, and there's that last album to wait on, but maybe by then it will kick in and be really eerie to hear a dead mans voice. Also a lot of the evidence made it sound like he didn't kill himself, but if he didn't I don't know who would.

My favourite is Roman Candle. It's really dark but just beautiful, Last Call and Drive all over town are probably the sadest songs ever. I |

Really, the only good place to start is by getting all the albums. Which is a tremendously irritating thing for me to say, but its true. The problem is, if you get just one or two, you're missing out on a whole bunch of amazing songs. At a pinch, I would say get XO and either/or first, but then you'd be missing out on Needle In The Hay, Condor Ave., Clementine, Miss Misery, and a whole bunch of others. I'm constantly amazed that I can listen to Elliott Smith over and over and it'll still sound fantastic.

Yeah, Frankus is a good man.
I'm a member of "No niggers and faggots", the forum dedicated to the Guns and Roses, and I must say that Axl Rose is definitely the coolest, though.
Hell, he even made us win his new whig and his old shorts on the forum.

I only found out about ES lately, and if he did do it himself, I'm surprised that someone who made music that beautiful could feel things were so hopeless. And Axl Rose still breathes. Everything's backwards.
