Anybody here know this band? I saw them last week on Letterman and they performed a song call 'The Rat'. I started out viewing them dismissively but the song and the performance won me over.
Was I fooled or are these guys any good in your opinion? |

I think that when FB/Rich/Scott were on MuchMusic or MTV, they had a Walkmen song on there, but I could be confusing them with something else. The Rat's a solid track.

My friend played me their album the other night and, despite being off my face, I thought it sounded really good. I fully intend to get the album.
They have just come on Xfm now. I can verify my initial thoughts. It's good stuff.

Just heard The Rat again and it is very good.
Before that however, I heard a song by a band called HAL and it was damn fine. Isn't Xfm a good radio station? I have only recently discovered it online.

i thought their previous release , " everyone who pretented to like me is gone ", was better. but maybe i just haven't listened to the new one enough. you may remember a saturn commercial awhile back that used their song " we've been had ". it wasn't on many times, maybe they realized the irony in the song title. |

Thanks for the responses.
I bought Bows & Arrows and I think it is a great CD. I am having a hard time getting it out of the player right now.
I always wondered about that "we've been had" song, pretty catchy, but, doesnt sound like anything on Bows & Arrows. thanks again |

The Walkmen contain fragments of the band that once were 'Jonathan Fire*Eater' although the singer went off to form a separate band...I've not heard 'The Walkmen' but Jonathan Fire*Eater's 'Tremble Under The Boomlights' is one of the best EPs ever released...oh yes.

I had read that Scarlo-O, but, mostly in the vein of 'from the ashes of the over-hyped Jonathon Fire*eater' comes the Walkmen.
I'll download something off that EP and check it out. I recommend the Walkmen, 'The Rat' is a great song, but, I really like the moodier elements on songs like "Whats in it for me?" or New Years Eve. Its good stuff. |

Must be nice to get it all the time, eh? Oh look, I do! Actually, its not always that great. The late night shows are usually pretty ace, but day-time can be as formualaic and playlist based as Radio 1. I heard a band on Xfm called Lucky Jim the other day, they were quite good. Like most of the good new music, it was from Brighton, so Mel? You recommend?

Noooo!
Really?
Well Jonathan Fire*Eater's first album sucked and wasn't a patch on their previous E.Ps but I really find it hard to find any faults with 'Tremble Under The Boomlights'.
Also, i can't say that they ever struck me as being a much-hyped band? It's not like they sold many records...maybe things were different for them in the states?

Well, I remember reading in an interview to the Strokes at the beginning of their success that they didn't want to end up like Jonathan Fire*Eater, which were initially over-hyped and then quickly forgotten. If this is of any relevance... |

I havent read that JF*E sucked, just that they were hyped and then self-destructed.
You'll see similar references if you catch any articles re. the Walkmen (did I mention that they are REALLY good?) in the future. |

Im with floop. They're okay.
Instead, everyone should go check out the Eagles of Death Metal debut LP. (Josh from Queens of the Stone Age new band)....It rocks my pants.
