The new Wilco album A Ghost Is Born has leaked onto the internet download sites. Rather than gather an army of lawyers Jeff Tweedy politely asks the downloaders to donate some money to Medicins Sans Frontieres http://www.justafan.org . Seems like Mr. Tweedy is not just a brilliant musician but also very wise in trying to accomodate filesharing in a positive way.

Yeah, that's pretty cool of them. They raised $1500 on their first day, and not for themselves, but for a charity. They're still going to release the album in August (delayed) and hopefully will make a good share of money in support of their efforts.

That's cool. Can't wait for the new album to come out. I hate pre-downloading albums that have been leaked. Just a personal thing. I don't mind if someone else does it. This topic came up a while ago. I feel like my sentences are short. I sound like Hemingway.

I can't wait for the new Wilco album, but I will wait till it's actually released to listen to it. I mean, if they release a promotional single, I'll download that song, seeings how it's likely that I won't hear it on the radio a) because Wilco gets no play on the radio and b) because I don't listen to the radio. But the band/record company wants me to hear that song outside of the context of the proper studio album prior to it's release, so I figure it's alright to download it for free. But downloading and listening to an entire record before it's released, it's like opening your Christmas presents early. Plus, there isn't the album artwork to help evoke mood for the album. Album artwork plays a crucial role in the sound of a record for me, though I must admit that I am caring less and less about it in this age of burning CDs, and I'm losing my knowledge of song titles as well. That used to be something I knew well. Now, I'm always saying, "That song that goes..." rather than saying the title. I'm ashamed.
