Hello... Id like to trade for the two 1987 pixies radio shows that surfaced a few months ago and SSMVGD. I already got these items from a trade, but they were all mp3 sourced... So if someone has them and hes completely sure his items are flawless and not mp3sourced, it would be very nice to trade. You can see my bootlist at http://jpflori.free.fr

[EDIT - Please make the subject relevant. A topic in the trading forum called 'trade' serves no one.] |

I think that the 87 radio shows were broadcast from a shortband college radio station and thats why the high frequency's are cut off. Thats atleast what benji thought when he traded it to me and he should know he was the distributer. Its either that or all copies are mp3 sourced, does anyone have these shows with the higher frequencys? |

the guy who sent them to me - who was the guy who found them etc assured me that he did not made the cd's from mp3's. doesn't make much sense when he would have had to make the wav's from the original tape he had, then concerted to mp3, then converted back to wav and burnt and distributed.
i believe him, and think the reason why they are missing said freq is as friendafoe said.
and friendadoe - was it you i got those nirvana discs from? cause they awesome!

holy shit dude you have some awesome stuff from Zwan! i've got over a 100 SP shows and have the first ever four Zwan shows taped from 2001 (not listed, on my website because no one ever trades for them anymore) Pixies/FB related material is on my bootlist. Give me a buzz if you find anything interesting or want to trade or want more information.

appears you were right afterall jp. but it also transpires that no none-mp3 copy exists or will ever exist because the original tape has been destroyed.

That's switchy on this forum--the guy who did the gigophraphy. I've tried emailing him a few times about it but he's never responded. Maybe he'll see this thread.

oh, hi. yeah, that's me. i got my copies from someone who got them from the source guy. i was told they weren't from mp3s.. though i started to question it after reading on this forum that supposedly no non-mp3 copies existed. I don't know much about checking frequency levels and whatnot, but i listened very carefully to the track transitions for the tell-tale blip/gap that come from mp3s.. and the transitions were flawless, so i'm not convinced they're NOT from mp3s. I'm sure person I got them from didn't do any editing, so unless the source guy made mp3s, burned the mp3s to cdr, ripped the wavs, edited out the little spaces, and re-burned it.. But who knows, maybe they are.. perhaps I should play it safe and remove the note from my list saying they're non-mp3. |

I'm guessing maybe he extracted the casstte to mp3 and since it's a cassette the tracks aren't separated so he could have converted it to wav and separated the tracks, which would have done it seemlessly without clicks or gaps between tracks, and then burned it onto a CD. Maybe, if he did this, he thought it wasn't mp3 sourced since he converted it to wav after he extracted it. Just a complete guess on my part but who knows.

this is a copy of the email where the question was asked of the original source. settles it once and for all.
The shows were on cassette tape, so I connected my poineer tape deck directly into my sound card. From there I recorded the show into mp3 format using musicmatch jukebox. I made the mp3s 192 kbs. Because the shows were one long mp3 I used mp3butcher to chop them up into songs. It was hard because of the way the band starts immediately after each song.

So does the guy still have the cassette tape? Maybe we could get him to rerecord it in wav format. He's a member of this forum isn't he?

opps, forgot to add the other bit of the email about how he disposed of the tapes... here it is. and it wasn't me who asked the guy these questions....i was just forwarded the result.
I threw out the tapes because they were old and both were having trouble winding. For the 1987 shows the only copies I have are on mp3 now, sorry.
