I haven't read anything anywhere but a few people have told me they've heard this. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

"Geiger would not comment on specific bands rumored to be appearing on the Perry Farrell-reared event this summer, such as the Pixies, the Cure, Nine Inch Nails or Sonic Youth, the latter of whom is said to be very close to joining the bill."
See article below:
Lollapalooza Eyes Blend of Success, Credibility Tue Mar 9, 2004 06:30 PM ET
By Jonathan Cohen NEW YORK (Billboard) - Lollapalooza organizers are aiming to "blend success and commerciality with credibility and meaning and risk taking" as they move forward with plans for the 2004 edition of the festival, William Morris Agency senior VP Marc Geiger told Billboard.com.
Addressing his return to the booking process after not participating in last year's edition, Geiger says, "I can assure you, as long as I'm involved, it wouldn't be anything but very cutting edge."
Geiger would not comment on specific bands rumored to be appearing on the Perry Farrell-reared event this summer, such as the Pixies, the Cure, Nine Inch Nails or Sonic Youth, the latter of whom is said to be very close to joining the bill. But he did weigh in on the merits of a potential lineup of veteran rock acts:
"What I really want to tell you is that most of the artists that commercial alternative radio broke in the late '90s suck and are over," he said. "If you want to program anything with substance, you're dealing with artists that have some kind of meaning and legacy, and ultimately, they're all going to be perceived as old, other than Jack White and a few others."
"Is Bonnaroo old, with a lineup that has the Dead, Dylan and David Byrne?," he asked rhetorically. "You can't go by time, because the coolest thing people want me to do is put Loretta Lynn together with Jack White, and she's almost 70! I have more respect for people who can manage their credibility over 10, 20, 30 years than any new band who is riding a new trendy wave."
Lollapalooza is expected to hit the road in July and August. "There will be a bunch of good stuff," Geiger promised.

It sounds like he's describing the Pixies right there. We can cross our fingers, can't we?

hmm, I just noticed that there's a wide open gap from 7/02 - 8/22 in the Pixies tour dates, suggesting that they could be playing Lollapalooza in that time period.

Hope I can see them in Minneapolis on Tuesday, Lollapalooza this summer, and Chicago in November. That would be perfect. |

The Pixies aren't playing Lollapalooza. This year the festival's going to be a two-day traveling event, with the first day headlined by Morrissey and the second day headlined by the String Cheese Incident. The first day will be alt-rock bands and the second day will be jam bands. Other acts already announced include Sonic Youth, Modest Mouse, the Flaming Lips and Polyphonic Spree. Gomez and Black Rebel Motorcylce Club also are rumored to be on the |

As of right now, and as far as I have been told, these dates already posted are the only dates the Pixies will be playing Lolapalooza. |

I read somewhere ( I think it was that new Pixies site, not I Love...) that the Pixies are playing day 2 of Lollapalooza at Randall's Island, NY, on August 17. I'm not sure if it's confirmed yet, and I don't think that the tickets are on sale. But if it's true, and the tickets are under $50, I'm gonna drive down from western MA.
I already saw sonic youth at the 1995 Lol., and I have no desire to see any of the other bands, but I think it would be fun. |

Well, i believe Randalls Island is projected as a 25,000 capacity venue, at least according to the figures I was sent. That's a lot of tickets to sell! |
