Anyone noticed how the drumming introduction to 'Bragging Party' by the Amps is very similar, or in fact, identical, to 'Bone Machine'?

I love Bragging Party!!! That repetitive guitar riff(a little faster) can be found in a Guided By Voices song in one of their early albums, just noticed it recently while listening to their 1st box set.

Yep, I'd agree that there is a similarity. Ah, Bragging Party is such a great song.

As far as the similarities between those songs go, I never really thought of Kim as a terribly prolific drummer. That said, I don't think anybody could have played drums for her on that album and had it kick as much ass as it did. I doubt she intentionally used the same drum beat, but if she did, I don't think it makes a difference one way or the other. Bragging Party is such a bitchin song, it stands on its own. I forgot what point I was trying to make.

There's a U2 song that has a bassline very similar to 'Bone Machine.'

I can definitely see the similarity

I didn't know Kim Deal played drums on the Amps album. that is a great album, btw...I derive much much enjoyment from it. More than some Breeders stuff, actually. I remember seeing the Breeders at Nation (in DC) a couple of years ago...and they opened with Tipp City. I almost shit my pants.

Yeah, Kim played all the instruments on that album. It's 100% Kim!! So delicious.

All the instruments?
I never heard of that
I thought there was at least some Robert Pollard guitar going on I am decided
and luis lerma, mcpherson, farley? were those guys just a touring band?

As far as I know. She had a band live, but the album was her baby. And what a beautiful baby it was. I'll double check around to make sure, but I'm 99.5% sure I'm right. She never ceases to amaze, does she?

she played all the instuments on the demos, not the actual album. jim mcpherson played drums, nate farley played bass and louis luis lerma was on guitar, as jop said. so there ya go.

Really? Oh, how disallusioned I was!!! I'm sorry if I got anybody else thinking the same thing. I know I've heard some of the demos and they sounded a bit rougher (what demo doesn't?). I guess I was told wrong. I'm calling my cousin and slapping him over the phone. The songs are still pretty true to form from the demos, though. Aren't they? Either way, I was 99.5% sure. Hats off to that 0.5%. Well, I've often been one to preach about infinite probability, so thanks for proving me right, Brackish Girl. And I apologize to the boys who played on Pacer for not giving them credit where credit was due. (I'm sure you're all reading this.)

well, all i know is bob pollard wrote 'i am decided', i think on his own, as apposed to co-writing it with kim. but sure, kelley might have, but she was in low spirits at the time with the police on her ass for the heroin seizure and stuff.

I really don't hear the similarities b/t Bone Machine and Bragging Party..maybe I'm wrong. I have to listen to it again though.

But that song KICKS ASS!!! Bragging Party has that lo-fi feel to it ya know. Kim did an EXCELLENT job on Pacer. I know Kelley helped out by playing bass and guitar on the album as well. :) And not bad for a beginner drummer Kim :)
