Who has some odd ones, or downright spooky ones? For example:

1. The week of June 16, 2000 (that date was the 9:30 Club show, the night I decided I wanted to be a rock star), I drove out to PA to meet The Bennies in person and to see them open up for Frank Black in Philly and DC. I met them through the AbstractPlain, a FB mailing list. After that point, a year and a few days later, I moved to PA. On June 16, 2004, I will be landing in London, England to meet the wonderful Melanie, whom I met on the frankblack.net forum.

2. My first real girlfriend was 18 when I was 15. My next girlfriend was 23 when I was 18. And now I'm 21 and Mel is 18. Third time is a charm, yes?

Cue eerie music. I can't think of any others. Anybody?

Well a couple of years ago, just after 9/11, my friends and I were plagued by the number 22. Our 7th grade "field-trip" was in Washington D.C. It kept on getting delayed until June 22nd (After school had been out for a couple of weeks.)..so then we're put into our groups which we got to choose ourselves for our rooms. When we get there our room is number 122...but the way the doorman showed us our room was scary as hell...he was like "Ah, here's your room...Number 1 hundred and *turns and faces us and says in an almost evil voice* twenty-two." and he just kept glaring at us...which was fucking creepy. So then we got settled in and our TV wasn't working..the only channel we could get was number 22. It kept following us the entire trip...and then the next year for the 8th grade trip it happened again...22 was everywhere. Probably just coincidence...but still quite weird.

I had tickets and took a greyhound 7 hours to see Frank Black and the Catholics play in D.C. @ the Black Cat the night after Philly, Friday the Thirtneenth, friday the fuckin 13th, but it was also Good Friday, and the Catholics got robbed.

I think I am the only person on this forum who had tickets to the only 2 canceled FB&C shows in the past 5 years...

I had tickets to the show at Fletcher's in Baltimore. It was the Saturday night before the SUper Bowl when FB did the online Q&A with fans... FB could not play due to illness? I'm sure many remember that, I have the transcript somewhere, prolly still online. But get this, the fuckin Baltimore Ravens american football team won the SUper Bowl that same year... creepy

It sucks to go a long way out of your way expecting the a great event you've eagerly awaited for an extened time and then have it completely suck, not work, and turn out the opposite way, especially when it has to with missing few opputunities to see FB shows. He won't be close to 1000 miles from me for a long time =(

I tell this story all time becuase it is true and it uniquely and profoundly sucked.

I probably won't live long enough to have a girlfriend. Pity me.

I have 18 dollars in my wallet and 22 quarters in my change drawer, I'm betting it all on you Barticus

Well, my birthday is 7/16/1976 and I have always had luck with the 6's and 7's in my life. I don't know if that count's but it is all I can think of.

March 14, 2002 was an excellent day for me. There was something in the air. I felt confident and assured. And I was flattered.

March 13, 2003 was an excellent day; I was recording something on my 4-track, it came out AMAZING, and again I felt confident and assured.

March 12, 2004 had an excellent evening; I found a glove I thought I had lost, drank and socialized with some high-quality friends on the 2nd floor of an old house that had been made into a cafe. The 2nd floor was just a bunch of unoccupied rooms of the old house and it was the apotheosis of a good environment for conversation. Again, I felt very confident and happy on that day. I was in a good mood.

I assure that these feelings of confidence are NOT one-time occurences. However, there is an interesting theme developing.

Funny you bring this up, this was in WIRED today:

Madrid's 9/11 Connection

The Madrid bombings on Thursday, March 11, have eerie numeric links to the Sept. 11, 2001, al Qaida attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center in New York. Not only did the Madrid bombings occur two and a half years, to the day, after the U.S. assaults, but there were also exactly 911 days between the two terror attacks. Spanish officials have not been able to determine who is responsible for Thursday's commute-hour bombings, in which almost 200 people were killed and more than 1,400 injured.

As for the 'recurring number' phenomenon that people seem to experience, it's really just your mind. We see numbers constantly..it's 10:13, the last post was on 03/13/2004 at 16:07:56 and there's a 14, 13, 12, 4, 2, and pi.

The reason you seem to encounter the same number over and over is because you're actually looking for it.

Pick a number at the beginning of the day, and i promise you'll see it crop up continuously.

Really, it's only 'occuring' because you're looking for it.

Sorry to disappoint! =)

Perhaps someone should look into Jason Lowenstein's album "At Sixes and Sevens". I haven't heard it, but if it brings you good luck, you can thank me. Be careful though, as Bob Pollard says "Jason Lowenstein is a wanker".

I swear that I always look at my odometer (?) when it hits an even even number.

like 156000, or 160000. I look down when I'm driving and it just happens to me changing to a number like that. And I don't think I look at it that much really. But I'm sure when I look and see 156893 I don't even know I'm looking at it because it's not a special number. ha.

I suppose you're right Dave...but when it comes to dates...I mean, look at my #1! In fact, the original date I was supposed to leave for England was 6/14...and I think that would have been EXACTLY 4 years since I went to PA for the first time (but the low cost plane tickets for that date sold out). I'll have to do some research on this...but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

Hey Dave, the same thing happens for "dreams". You'll be doing something and then realize to yourself, "Hey, I had a dream exactly like this!". But it's all your brain playing a game with you...fucking brain, it's such a bastard.

See....i'm not sure about that one Nathan. I have 'Deja Vu' dreams quite frequently, and there have been a few where i remembered them when i woke up, and they happened some time later.

There's definitely something weird going on there that i can't explain.

No, I can guarantee you that that is not the case. Believe me, there's a big study. Unless you keep a dream-log (which is where each time you wake up you immediately write down your dreams) ,and you wrote down something before it happened, then it's your brain fooling you. It makes you swear to yourself that you really did have the dream...but chances are you didn't...

Whenever I used to look at any 24 hour clock at night, it would nearly always seem to be 22:22. I used it as my lucky number for a while but it didn't turn out to be partilularily lucky unfortunately.

When I was living in Australia in '98, my friends and I were driving passed the casino in Surfer's Paradise and we stopped at the lights behind a limo. It's reg. plate read 'BET 17'. That night we went to the casino and 'cos I was a bit short of cash I decided just to watch other people lose their money. I went straight over to the roulette wheel and 17 came in 6 times in about 15 spins. As you can imagine I was extremely gutted that I didn't have any cash on me. It's been my lucky number since though. Much luckier than 22.

Wow! I was born 7/14/1976...which is interesting in only one way...I was born 200 years 10 days after the signing of the Declaration of Independence! OK, it's not interesting at all.

Interesting subject - one that has always fascinated me. I think in some circumstances, yes it id purely because you are looking for it. I do agree to an extent Dave.

But, however, I also feel that everyone has a number which is, and will be significant through out their lifes. Its all to do with numerology, which I have looked in to to quite some depth. Yeah, ofcourse coincidenses arise, but in some situations that is not the case. One part of numerology is workuing out your number via your name and birth date - my numbers add up to a number which is both rare, and isnt the best meaning in the world. It basically means im doomed, - by self sacrificing, which sucks, but also very true..

Obviously your mind plays a big part in all of this, such as what Jim was saying re: June 16th..yeah ok, its more than a little coincidence, but at the same time, a lot of people are affected by times of the year, and seasons in the year, and this could be playing a [art in why he makes such large decisions for that time of year.
Anmd yes, i mean if you paranoid about anything, it becomes much more real...much more erm, cant think of the word, but it would stand out more in your mind.

However, what Crouton was saying re: dreams, I disagree. I actually kept a dream log for a number of years, because things kept happening that id dreamt about - never good things either. Dreams are your mind playing on your sunbconsious, and twisting the thing in side, at the back of your mind.

But there are many different forms of dreams, and people on average have 5 + per night, they only remember particular ones (usually the most recent to their awakening). I believe that everyone of those dreams plays on different parts of your brain - some premonitions, some on your subconsicous, some just playing on things that happened the prev day...etc etc, theres many more.

Some people just remember more than others.

*ends rant*

I had a dream once that, at 2:59 every morning (I think that was the time, anyway), the clock would say "HOTEL." I have no idea why.

People can use numerology to prove anything, really.

for the longest time i would only date girls with "even numbered" amount of letters in their names because the "odd" ones always screwed me over. lisa, tamara, andrea = good. jen, crystal, kiley, dawne, katrina = bad. then i realised it was just me and then kiley called me and told me she really spelled her name kyli and i was like that doesn't jive. funny thing, now that i look at all those girls i just typed they were all (except tamara) born in months that begin with a vowel. and there was a lot of good with katrina so maybe i just need a girl who ends her name with an "a" and was born in a vowel month, hmmmmmmmm. i broke up/was broken up with on 3 consecutive halloween's. i have always had good luck meeting girls on the 8th of a month in the first half of the year and on the 19th in the second half. wierd stuff really.

I was born the day after Picasso died. When I discovered this, around the age of 15, I had a secret superstitious hope that I had inherited his skills. It wasn't serious though. At least I hope so, for my own sanity's sake.
