Erm I don't think this is what you are after but you can upload editions of Transformers here:
http://www.thetransformers.net/
Like I said it's probably not what you are after but maybe someone else will find something of interest there.

thanks but yeah, I'm looking for more variety. I know I've seen a few people discuss comics here before. I recently discovered that you can get comic scams from file sharing programs and have heard that there are websites that offer the same thing. anyone?

I guess it depends on what kind of comics you are looking for. I'd say that X-Men and Spider-Man e-comics would be on file sharing programs. But, if you are looking for rarer stuff than mainstream, I don't know. I also don't know if there are sites where you can "buy" e-comics much like you buy music off of itunes or Napster. I try to support the industry by buying actual comics. Comic book pencilers and inkers aren't millionaires, and I don't think that the medium will be around forever. I'd rather just have the actual comic. If it's old or overpriced issues you are looking for (for instance, the first apperance of Wolverine or something) then there are anthology books, and reprints that, while not worth nearly as much as the real versions, are no more valueless than would be an e-comic of the same title and number. And, unless you are a serious collector (which, judging by your desire to download e-comics I don't imagine you to be) who cares if it's a reprint or not? I was always more interested in comic books for the stories than the value anyway. I'd be interested to know what types of comics you are interested in, scutor. |

Hey, thanks glacial. I used to be into comics when I was younger and have maintained some interest. I never try to rip people off and I do try to support the things I really love. The problem is that I'm not a millionaire either and there are more stories out there than I could ever afford to buy and many which aren't worth buying. Much like music, file sharing has become a way to find out what is good and what is worth pursuing and buying in the future. I disagree, however, that comics won't be around forever. I think they will be around forever; just look at how the industry has grown (again, the reason that I can't afford to keep up anymore). Anyhoo, I pick up whatever catches my eye, nothing in particular. You? What do you recommend?

Most of the reason that the industry has grown is because of tie-ins to movies like Spider-Man, X-Men and the Hulk. There will always be a hard-core contingent of fans who read comics for love of the medium, but comic book companies are businesses and try to attract new readers through merchandising, mostly through movies. It all depends on how important the comic book companies consider their hard-core contingent of followers that will be there when the hubbub of the movies dies down. I'm sure most of the growth of the industry in the past few years (since about 2000) is due mostly to the movie tie-ins.
Additionally, more and more artists and companies are using computers to digitally enhance comics. To a degree, I see nothing wrong with this, because I plan to color my own comic using Photoshop and/or Illustrator. (Most comic book companies that have digital coloring use a program called Digital Chameleon.) But, increasingly you'll see companies employing computers to do not only colors but the entire comic in some cases, the line work, (which doesn't need to be inked, thereby cutting out another middleman.) I just think that the people in charge of Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, and all the smaller and unnamed companies (stockholders who directly control the upper level management) think in terms of the dollar and don't give much appreciation to a glorious, beautiful penciled page of comic book art. (I love uninked artwork.) If comics fully done by computers is more economically viable, then I'm sure they will roll with it. It all is up in the air right now. I hope that I'm totally off the mark!
As to your question about my reccomendation, well, like I mentioned, I'm in the beginning stages (writing and design sketches) a comic of my own right now; if we're both still on this board when it's done I'll have to reccomend that! (A bit of shameless, and premature, plugging there.)
I love comics for the artwork, and the stories. I have, in the past, bought alot of X-Men and popular Marvel stuff, but have kind of gotten out of that in recent years. Every once in awhile I'll buy a X-title, usually Uncanny or New X-Men. The creative team in that actually did a kick-ass job last time I bought the comic, about a year and a half ago, in which the entire mutant population of Genosha, about 14 million mutants, was wiped out completely. It was called "E is for Extinction." I have always loved Frank Miller's "Sin City." I have seen previews of the latest incarnation of Catwoman, and it looks killer, believe it or not. Lets see...did you read "Origin?" It is the honest to God history of Wolverine. It was totally unexpected, and very good. I can feel myself slipping into comics again...it's like a crack addiction, you're never totally cured. |

haha, it is like an addiction. I always seem to find my way back to a comic book store.
I got scans of some Sin City and Origin (if I like them I'll buy them or at least other sin city work) and that Genosha story sounds great but was it a real story or more of a "What If?" side story?
Please please let me know when your comic is finished; I'd love to read it. Good luck!
