I love orange juice. love it more than Kevin Bacon in "Stir of Echoes". The other night I woke up from a fevered dream of lemonade with a raging thirst, and the orange juice I drank brought a tear to my eye.
But Orange Juice from Concentrate? Forget it. It has none of the good properties of real orange juice. It's hard edged, bitter, and totally bereft of subtlety or nuance. It's McDonalds vs. Filet Mignon.
And I've got two gallons to get through before I can go back to the store and get myself some real Orange Juice.

Yeah, fresh orange juice is better, but I like it just about any way.

Any store-bought, pasteurized orange juice, from concentrate or not from concentrate, is shit compared to fresh-squeezed. May I reccommend one of these:

Donald Duck orange juice was the worst piss masquerading as OJ. |

I have oranges in my garden, and that's the best orange juice you can get.
And NimrodsSon, this is a squeezer:

Yeah, I love how they do the commercial with the 'purple stuff'. Or maybe it's just Stewie in the Family Guy parody. In any case, what makes 'orange stuff' and better than 'purple stuff'?!

Well you could get that little "squeezer," or you could get the Green Star juicer and get about twice as much juice out of each orange and be able to juice not only oranges, but practically any fruit or vegetable. Orange/ strawberry, anyone? Carrot/Apple? Ah, the possibilities!

Sunny D isn't even billed as juice. It's a fruit drink, or a sports drink, or something.
Yeah, they really did have commercials where some guy would go to the refrigerator with his friends, and say, "We have [some drink I can't remember], purple stuff, and Sunny D." His friends would inevitably choose the Sunny D. But then, who wouldn't, when the main alternative was called "purple stuff"?

Juiced in a juice extractor = best Freshly squeezed = pretty damn good "Indian River" pasteurized orange juice, not from concentrate = decent Other pasteurized, not from concentrate orange juices = sometimes okay From concentrate = terrible, always "Sunny Delight" = horrendous, undrinkable

I think Tropicana does a good job in the 'not from concentrate' field and would rank them right below squeezing my own.

Yeah, grapefruit is too sour. I love apple and grape juices, though.

I got a juicer for my birthday! It's an old-school, hand-cranked kind of deal, and good gravy is the juice better than anything from a carton.

Happy Birthday Cheeseman! Juicers are awesome! Squeezed at home is better than anything you can find in a store. Have you tried making carrot juice yet? It is one of my favorites! |

Minute Maid orange juice tastes awful.
My fave is Florida Natural. And Tropicana is pretty good too. I only buy stuff that already comes made in a carton. the best OJ i've had was at a hotel in Belize that made it freshly squeezed.
BLT your comment cracks me up, because my mom used to buy donald duck OJ! She knows better now. I guess 33 cents a can seemed like a good deal or something.

The only downside to juicers is that they take forever to clean, but it's generally worth it if you have the time.

I will never forget the time both my husband and I thought the other had cleaned the juicer only to discover a week later when we tried to make more juice that something was horribly wrong.
I can still remember the smell!

Minute Maid isn't very good, but it'll do in a pinch.
Their lemonade is pretty much the same way, only worse.
