To anyone who is a little agreived at the few shows you americans have got on this tour, don't be. They are English anyway so we deserve them so much more. If ever you think oh thats lame that the English get it first or whatever (in regards to the pixies) don't. You are paying for not getting it first time round. They shouldn't even tour America, as a punishment for being so dumb 15 years ago.
Reasons: They had a number of UK top 10 album entrys. Gouge appears to be almost entirely based around Britain. The DVD performance is in England

I think people may get a slight confused at your post,i see what you're getting at about them "being" english but the fact is that they're american and phillipinean..

I think there's a slight misconception about Pixies popularity in US. Surely, in England they were more famous, but they were still a wildly popular indie band in America, sold out tours, lots of college radio play, ext. It's not that hard to briefly chart high in England because the population is much smaller, so you can even get bands like The Fall in the top 10 for a week or too. |

Transmarine: What?
Itchload: Thats silly, at a guess our music buying.....population is probably roughly the same ratio as yours making it similar for a band to chart. Trompe le monde going in at whatever it was, 4 here and 84 in the states is a massive difference, no matter how many people live there.

The US didn't have an equivalent to rags like NME and Melody Maker to tell us what to like. Generally speaking, you can't be lazy and find much music of substance over here. Most Americans who found out about the Pixies in the '80s did so against the odds. You probably can't appreciate that. |

so shouldn't that mean that the people who did find and love the pixies in america deserve to see them all the more?

nah. I think don't think you should let anyone who knew about them/liked them when they were still a band to come to the shows! Leave the tickets to us who are too young to have loved them then, and who never had a chance to see them live! I mean, even if you never saw them live, you had the chance.
Oh. I should warn you for the sarcasm above. I don't want to piss someone off. |

It amuses me though. I post one slightly tongue in cheek post and then people jump to the defence of their nation. Have you not seen bowling for columbine!? As for the nme quote. Do you think I care? Im twenty, I was the grand age of 6 when they were at their peak. Since then melody maker went bust and nme doesn't exactly have pixies articles every week. So in conclusion, your talking shit, you've turned this harmless post into some sort of bullshit excuse to talk crap to me. Against the odds!? Ha you fucking retard. You had to jump fences and raid stores to get hold of their music? Im happy to believe that but either you or itchload are lying, and Im inclined to believe itchload.
I shall post on this no more. If you wish to reply read the first post for what it says instead of reading into it whatever you want.

I think it’s interesting that Malax didn't reply to the first reply by Shakey Shake, which states
"I think people may get a slight confused at your post, I see what you're getting at about them "being" English but the fact is that they're American and Philippine.."
Don't be so ridiculous Malax, grow up and act your 20 years. You could make the same statements RE any band that has a good following outside their country of origin, there are many Irish and English bands for instance that would have a big US following but would never consider themselves American. What goes through your mind that you would actually sit down and waste your time writing that post?!! So silly

Malax, your quote wasn't completely tongue in cheek, there was a bit of venom in it. And I'm not jumping to the defense of the US, Bush being a deuchebag has nothing to do with the Pixies. Plus if you believe everything Michael Moore says you're just as ignorant as someone who believes everything their president says.
I just wanted to clear up the whole idea that the Pixies were some obscure nobody in the US and The Beatles in England. Not true. |

I shall reply to itchload, only. Correct, but it was simply a joke to people who say, why are they touring here and not here, check out pitchforks recent articles. To the unknown the dvd would imply that it is talking about an english band (with the celebs/journalists), I just found it amusing, im not retracting what i said. Up until BLT posted it was rather light hearted. This is all very silly, for those who don't understand that this was partly a joke:
I KNOW THE PIXIES ARENT REALLY ENGLISH WE DONT REALLY DESERVE IT ANY MORE THAN ANYONE
Anyone who has read other posts by myself will hopefully know that Im not some dumbass who would be so close minded as to actually believe the opening post of this topic. So chineselover.....

Struck a nerve, did I? You make a statement like this and then try to say it was "light-hearted"?
quote: They shouldn't even tour America, as a punishment for being so dumb 15 years ago.
No one had to "jump fences and raid stores" to hear the Pixies, but chances are they didn't see it on TV or hear it on any popular radio station.
My post wasn't meant to be particularly mean-spirited, just an attempted appropriate response to this thread.

WAS lighthearted no point in bucking the trend.
Chances are they didn't hear the pixies on popular radio or tv over here either. Thus justifying your stupid point further, not to mention not being relevant to anything that has been said since or before for that matter.

So what you are saying is that a blind squirrel finds better acorns than the US?
PS. Malax does not represent the English.

I thinks its just a case that Malax tried deliberately to annoy people by bringing this whole nationalistic thing into it, and then when he realised how silly it sounded he tried to pass it off as a joke. But I’m sure he is still glad it gave a little stir, and of course the joke is on us because we attempted to take his serious post seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Chineselover you read my mind...my you must be some sort of genuis. Oh wait you would have found this site sooner if you were. Let me guess your a long time reader first time poster, just took you 2 years to find topics you have opinions on eh? Oh my, look you registered on the 3rd of feb this year and have only posted in the pixies sections. Now Im not one to judge but some people on here may think thats a bit odd. Not me though.
If I wanted to start a war of words, especially about UK vs America, why do it here. Surely it would be in general chat.

I don't even need to defend that it was a joke, its so blatant. To the untrained eye it would appear, I actually believe they are English.
This is were it gets crazy, I really do, I did I? I used this post as a tester to ask where they from without looking silly doing it in a single topic. Or did I?

i think this all comes down to as, mrcheese pointed out, different senses of humour. I for one, thought immediately malax was (trying) to be funny. i can see how some people could take it seriously, but i don't believe he was being malicious in any way.
but it's not really about his initial post anymore.
i just hope everybody realises that you're never going to get anywhere in this argument.
