I've got the first Bush tape, it has live bonus tracks and everything! I listened to it once and only once, which I don't believe is a claim that can be made by anything else in my collection. Not to say none of the rest of it sucks: lots of Metallica (including mid to late-'90s stuff). I saw Loudmouth back in '99, probably the only year they were even around, and they were so good live I bought their CD, but now I cringe to look at it. Many more, many more...used to just blow money on music I didn't care about.
Now that I have bills to pay I'm a lot more discriminating with my purchases.

I like all of my records and cd's and I'm not embarrassed to have all of Cyndi Lauper's albums plus the Goonies soundtrack on CD, but I think I wasted $2.99 when I got soundtrack to the Olivia Newton John/ John Travolta movie "Two of a Kind".
I was so excited though- it has "Twist of Fate" AND "Livin in Desperate Times"!!! |

a friend gave me that one C+C Music Factory cd a couple years ago ("Everybody dance now!"). damn it, i just can't pass up a free cd!
Paula Abdul's 'Forever Your Girl' album has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. i mean, come on, it's just PACKED with hits! pick up a copy today, won't you? thank me later.  |

i own 2 lee ranaldo solo discs ("envisioning" + "east jesus" , both kind of more embarrasing than arty stuff + noise) - god, they are awful. i even paid shitloads of money way back then.

I have Andrew Dice Clay live on CD.
I actually have New Kids on the Block's Hangin' Tough, but I didn't buy it. My anal compulsive roommate in college had it. He had a CD holder that held 20 CD's. He then went out and bought some crappy hair band CD (this is 1990, the band sang some power ballad called “Angel Eyes”), so he then had 21 CD’s. In his mind, he had to get rid of one of his CD’s. He couldn’t rationalize having 21 CD’s when he only had a holder which held 20 CD’s. So he gave me Hangin’ Tough. I would play it drunk to annoy people. |

i think mine would be Heaven & Hell which is a compliation cd from Meatloaf and Bonnie Tyler.
I also own Bon Jovi's best-of (Crossroad's) but I actually really like it, so i'm not embarrassed about owning that one.

| I have almost everything Frankie Goes to Hollywood ever put out. At sixteen I didn't even realize they were this big gay band. I used to wear their t -shirt to school all the time. No wonder I had no dates. One of the best concerts I've ever seen though. |

I'm not embarrassed to say I own 2 Marilyn Manson CDs. I actually like them.
I also have a Frank Sinatra Best Of, you know, that guy who sang with Robbie Williams :)
I sold all my Abba LPs though. I used to love them when I was *cough*13*cough*. Then the Smiths appeared and saved my soul.

I saw a NOFX video on VH1classic a few weeks ago. Seeing all that honest moshing and good punk vibes, I got really nostalgic, and I involuntarily cried.
I think my biggest embarassment is my Why Can't Tori Read cd. <shudder!!> Somebody else here mentioned that one too. I got way too into her stuff - though there were some gems, seeing her as she has been for the last several years, I am pretty embarassed to have liked her enough to buy that piece of crap from her past.

Most embarrassing? Mmmm. Interesting. The first record I ever got was Don't Kill The World by Boney M. My Gran bought it for me when I was 4 or 5. The cover had them chilling on these wrecked cars like the apocalypse went through Detroit first and their afros protected them, or something. Classic. Currently, I can't think of anything although I fucking love the Grand Theft Auto Vice City 80's Soundtrack. Oh and I own a Sugar Ray single (got it for free though).
I'm also in here looking for some old mates who were on the E-groups Abstract Plain mailing list. To quote Ricky Gervais, we ruled the world before you did. Denis from France, Sam from Australia, the dudes from The Bennies and "...shiver..." Xylen or Lindsay Thompson. And the guy who was into the Simpsons you know who you is...my memeory is addled from a year away from technology propping up a lager splashed bar. Cheers |

I have a story about Sigue Sigue Sputnik.
While a senior in high school (1986), I read a little clipping in Rolling Stone about ex-Generation X'er Tony James creating a new band called Sigue Sigue Sputnik. I loved Generation X and Billy Idol (who used to sing for them) so I actively searched for that record even before it came out. When it did, I loved it. They later used that Love Missile tune in the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Anyway, I go straight to college after graduation and immediately get myself a slot at the college radio station. In spring of '87, there was a CMJ convention in NYC and the station manager and program took me along. We met all these crazy people and quite a few dorky college DJs (like me) but best of all we met Tony James: one of the pioneers of punk music, personal friend to Mick Jones, and now leading his own really hot band, SSS. I was a little star-struck but not too bad. I asked him if he'd do a promo for my radio show, which he did. As most things eventually do, SSS lost it's flavor.
Flash-forward 15 years. I'm bored one day, just finished watching Ferris Bueller when I think to myself, "I wonder if there's any fansites out there for Sigue Sigue Sputnik?" Not only were there fansites, but Tony James had put out 4 entirely new CDs himself since I left them. Talk about a determined man! Being a fan (and surely one of the first), I purchased all the new stuff to catch myself up. Yeah, a lot of it's crap but some of it is quite good.
So, should I be embarassed about this?

I bought it because I like his style of solo guitar, that is with Frank Black writing the songs though. I wasn't expecting a whole lot but never expected ez jazz gay country new age over produced dog fart guitar music. Lyle sucks and should continue writing jingles. Like Frank's quote about new music on the radio, is it some comercial for dog food or what?

A good off-shot from this topic would be "Embarrassing songs you put on your portable mp3 player".. there are a few stinkers I'll put on there, and when they come on, i just gotta pray no one can hear it or ask me what i'm listening to.  Like maybe some Christopher Cross or Richard Marx. But at least I don't own their albums. |

If I dug deep enough, I might find an LP by Styx or BTO. That actually does not seem so bad considering all the lame crap we are bombarded with. If you have stuff by Journey, Boston, Supertramp, Kansas or ELO, you may as well just hide in your closet the rest of your life...
On second thought, Styx is pretty embarassing...

I have a variety of CD's in my truck right now. Nothing to embarrasing.. ohh I guess my Vanilla Ice tape takes the trophey in my collection.
you guys are BRUTAL !! Siamese Dream ROCKS! not a huge pumpkin / billy corgan fan, but that album is amazing. I just bought Earphoria becuase of the live tracks from Siamese and Gish, it rocks too. I can't see how someone could call it thier most embarrasing CD, it's not like it's Eddy Murphy... "my girl like party all da time ... party all the time"
