Holy shit, I only heard that song recently and I though the exact same thing! Actually, before I heard it, a while ago I was playing 'Something' on my guitar in a mellow style, and though it might be cool if someone did a kinda beautiful, echoy, slow version of it. Hmmmmm.... |

I see what you mean. I love playing both songs, but they are at such different speeds that I never noticed that the bulk of the songs have the same type of chord changes, but just two frets apart. With the exception of an added chord (the D) in DITS. |

My Dearest Gentlemen....
It is no way near the same song(s). Different scale sure but more than that....some are noticing the similar chord-progression (in this case, the first three chords). That alone does not make a song. If it did then we would have to throw Veloria, Ana and Is She Weird (among others) into that class too. They share the same chord progression during different parts of each song (although in different scales). The timing, tempo and color are what separates these things. DITS is a truncated Surf Epic but that is it as far as DITS is concerned. Though I really like DITS, I wish he would have used the full length of Surf Epic or left it alone entirely....(same with Velvety while we are at it.)

I wasn't suggesting that they were the same song, but that there are some similarities in the structure of the song.
By the way anyone else notice the blatant rip-off of Debaser by Bob Mould's Sugar in "A Good Idea"?

if you want a similar chord progession, look at "Bad Harmony" and "I Don't Want to Hurt You"
C F F/E Dm C Bb Bb/A G(7)
We are couple wannabes who do not know what they are doin'
C
Every single time
F F/E Dm
I started this lesson in depravity
Bb Bb/A G
And now we`re falling apart in this lack of gravity
well... it's pretty close to the same progression
