Its often said in post-pixie articles that everyone who heard sufer rosa started a band the next day so:

How many people either picked up the guitar or started a band after hearing surfer rosa /come on pilgrim??!?/ and if so tell us your band name/style etc

...i started a band

Kurt Cobain and Nirvana made me start a band... but some six-seven years after I got into Nirvana, I was blown away after seeing the Gouge Documentary...

not sure what it was that made me start playing guitar, writing songs and forming a band... probably was pixies and frank black. more pixies i think (back then) but more frank black now (motivating me)...

i do seem to remember wanting to write a song as good as bone machine, or as darn catchy as debaser...

my band sounds like (in my arrogant opinion) a cross between pixies, frank, hefner, pavement and jonathan richman.

actually, it was the pixies that made me want to play guitar. i bought surfer rosa/come on pilgrim several summers ago and was rather taken by it all. i ended up buying a crappy acoustic guitar from argos and i the first song i learnt to belt out along to was 'vamos'.

I started to play guitar after geting that album, simply so I could learn how to play those songs. I play guitar today because of the Pixies. Period.

I was already playing when I was introduced to the Pixies in 1988.I play mostly bass but I'm a guitarist at heart! Jamming Pixies songs in rehearsals and just playing guitar along with the records built my confidence and improved my playing abilities.Frank's solo material and The Breeders and The Amps also helped.Add to that playing along the Pistols Never Mind The Bollocks,Ramones,The Stooges and The Misfits.I play punk, death metal and classic alternative.I never got the chance to play Pixies songs live but besides my hardcore/punk band and metal bands my project alternative band was named Dry Cleaners.

I heard my first Pixies when my cousin got me Doolittle for Christmas of '93. I was in love with the band before Debaser had played a minute, and by the time I got half way through I Bleed I knew I was going to be a musician and furthermore, doing what I damn well pleased as a musician, just like the Pixies. My band, Prozac Rat, sadly, doesn't reflect too much of my heavy Pixies influence, taking more from our collective love, They Might Be Giants, Ween, and Camper van Beethoven. But the Pixies gave me the attitude of "if the Pixies can make it, I can make it." And I know I'll never be able to rock as much as the Pixies, but hey, they give me something to strive for.

And our mp3 page really doesn't reflect my Pixies influence, since the only songs we have on there right now are taken from our 100% synth album Bridezillaville. But we like to think those tracks are fun. prozacrat.iuma.com

It was probably the Pixies who influenced me to become a musician a few years ago. Now I play with a band called Willum and the Works. We play a mean version of Cactus, and still like to jam at practice to Pixies material. If it were not for the Pixies, I probably would be spending all my time sitting in front of a TV rather than a bass.

First song I played on bass was 'Where is my Mind.' Pixies stuff is still mostly what I play. Other classic alternative stuff too, but the Pixies are the biggest influence on my playing.
