I agree, I think Built To Spill would be an excellent choice!! I'm not familiar with Whale..what are they like?
other suggestions I would have would be: Superchunk, Neutral Milk Hotel

I may have a little bit of inside info. Mclusky have recently beein demoing and have written their new album (follow up to ' do dallas) and its been rumoured this was sent to Frank and co and they its been really warmly received. as both bands have met ( due to being albini) It seems very likely that Mclusky will be supporting at least one date in brixton bearing in mind their sound is similar, they are relatively small and have london promoters always pull them in because of the good crowds they attract.
