you see, now i'm unsure whether or not it'd be tasteless to carry on with the joke and ask if they turned orange... probably. so i'll leave it.
sorry to hear that, what kind of disease? cats are the only types of pets i can stand, well i mean i don't like dogs... i like hamsters... and gerbils... we had a russian dwarf hamster, cutest thing ever. he used to get up at night and pee out of his cage, onto the wall... he kept me company on those lonely nights...

I love the dark red jagmaster and own one. It was very cheap, is great to play, looks fine when used onstage, and makes exactly the kind of racket that I need. For someone who knocks guitars about a bit, it's probably as good a compromise as I can get - and studio wise I've yet to use a guitar that gets anywhere near as good a sound without hassle. I have to be honest though - I've always seen guitars in a practical light and how they look is always last on my list of considerations. And the silver sparkly one IS pretty nifty, too - sorry if this makes me a pussy....
Mel - you've not only seen a red jagmaster the same as the one posted, but I actually have pictures here that you took of me playing mine!!!!

I guess it depends what kind of noise you're going for, and what it's going alongside. I've just finished a bunch of recording, and actually had a jaguar at my disposal throughout - but ended up using just the jagmaster and a telecaster because they suited the purpose a lot better. Personal thing though I guess - and then there's that age old myth about cheaper guitars sounding better when you record them...

I never particularly liked the sounds out of the Jaguar as much. I really liked the Jazzmaster though, but those guitars are fucking huge and heavy!

Is there a huge difference? I have never played both. What are the main differences between the Jag and Jazz then???

If you want an affordable, characterful, quality instrument then maybe you should check out Eastwood guitars. Their guitars are very well reviewed on harmony central but unfortunately (for me) they don't have much in the way of left-handed guitars.
I fancied one of these for a while ($500):
or maybe for $350:
I always thought there was something quite groovy about the Hagstrom futurama...
But i ended up playing a Patrick Eggle New York...
which is a great guitar and...
a Burns Marquee which i got just a week or so ago (and which produces some amazing sounds).

these are my favourite guitars: . I recently sold the Tele, to buy an 80s Contemporary Tele; you know, like that guy, who is it, uh, Black Francis? Something that. Anyway, he played one.
I'm a Fender person (although, I've never got on with Strats mucH). They can be modded easily, and generally look nicer than most electrics.

I was inspired to get a Tele because of Black Francis' wonderful usage of the instrument. However, I've always liked the rounded tone of a lot of Gibson-style guitars. |

That second one is very nice, very Jaguar-esq. The last one I like a lot too. Very unusual. Where did you get it? How much was it if you don't mind me asking?
I want one. Id the neck like a Fender?

Huh? I have a Jazzmaster, and it's hardly a heavy guitar! Now, the G&L I have is another story...it actually gives me shoulder cramps if I haven't played it standing up w/ a strap for a while.
I do have a Jazzmaster reissue, though...do you think they might have used a different wood for the original series?
Mosrite guitars are also awesome, albeit hard to come by...I would love one of those. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depends on how you look at it) I'm holding off on music purchases for a while. I just bought my dream amp...
a Fender '65 Twin Reverb...brand new...w/ reverb and vibrato channels built in. Sounds AMAZING. brings a tear to my eye and a chill to my spine. i'm so fucking HAPPY!

Oh by the way Tom, I got my amp. It's a Fender HotRod De Ville 212 Combo and it's LOUD!!!
It doesn't just "go up to 11", it goes up to 12!!! Haven't tried past 2 yet in the house. When I get it to the studio though, it's going up all the way.

Hey Homer, the last one on the list is a Burns Marquee and I got mine from the internet (www.gtrguitars.co.uk). They generally cost £299 new, (mine was almost new - £249). It's a fantastic guitar, so sturdy and well made - if you go to www.harmonycentral.com the reviews of the guitar are outstanding and there are plenty of shops selling them (and don't forget that there's ebay too).
www.guitarampkeyboard.com/" target="_blank">http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/ is selling the right handed version for £269 and would probably be able to get you a L/H for a similar price...
You might want to check out this website that sells worldwide and has a great selection of guitars (but only one L/H Burns Marquee @ $499)...www.myrareguitars.com/2000guitars.html" target="_blank">http://www.myrareguitars.com/2000guitars.html

nice! very nice. i like the way the controls are on top on that model. i broke my amp yesterday. rather annoying. it fell over and bust the input jack hole. i suppose it can be fixed, but i'd rather get a new one, heh. fender twin perhaps?! £££ perhaps not.
mm, a frank tele! it should arrive sometime next week hopefully. another import from the states. the exchange rate is so low at the moment, which brings me onto....a lefty jag i've just noticed! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3709641140&category=33039 give the seller a bell and see if he'll ship to the UK if you want it. i'm not sure how much it'll cost you with shipping / import tax. shipping is generally about $90. import tax is between 15% and 20% of the total cost (inc. shipping).
but back to the tele, what do you think....
to stripe, or not to stripe?

You know I never noticed that before. He did use regular ones too though didn't he?
Gotta be honest with you though Tom, for looks I prefer the regular design. Having said that, the stripes look cool and white is an excellent colour for a guitar. That's what colour Tele I want.
Good luck with your amp search. Hope you get as lucky as I did.

i'm pretty sure he used the comtemporary exclusively up until about bossanova, it's what gives his rhythm that 'clunky' sound. i know he also used mustangs, jags (i think) and some weird yellow guitar i've seen, around the bossanova and trompe era (you can see it in the alec eiffel and los angeles videos). yeh, he used standard teles too. i can hear the contemporary tele on the orange album and teenager too, but i think he moved onto standard teles onward from CoR.
i agree, the regular tele looks much nicer than the contemporary, but my mustang is the pretty guitar; this white contemporary will have to be it's ugly sister heh!
*edit* oh, also, how lucky did you get with the amp then mike?!

That's a beautiful guitar you got there Black Fender. I nearly got a leftie version of the excat same guitar (even the colours) on Ebay a couple of months back but the guy wanted too much (700 English pounds). I really want a Jag, although the bridge problems put me off a little.

mike, if (when!) you get a jag, stick a mustang bridge on it. i can't remember if i said that already. my mustang is quite defunct at the moment as it's bridge is on my jag, and the jag on the stang. not to mention how poor the stock mustang pups are.

got mine for around £400 in a backstreet shop back home. couldnt believe it. seen a few floating aroung and some re-issues going for over 1000. the mans right about the floating bridge though. bit dodgy. i experimented with a telecaster bridge.
the one to get in my selfish opinion is a mustang. theyre thinner lighter and play well. but thats just me. boy did i go through a kurt stage or what.
my frind owns a jag-stang but keep away. oh...they look nice though.
for all you in the uk...fender or gibson? thats the question. or not. |
