im not likely going to any of the 'warm-up' dates myself, but for the people who are, people should volunteer to try and get some good audio from the shows. it would suck if no one recorded their first show. users, tell us where you're going and what you plan to bring (ie minidisc, cassette recorder, dat, etc.) |

I was thinking of this today. We need audio from every show on this tour.
I was thinking that the band do it themselves then release a tour comp. having the best versions of each song through out the whole tour.
That'd never happen though.

An official bootleg would be nice too, better quality is definitely worth paying for. |

My sister has a minidisc player but I dont have any mics? I've never recorded any shows before so can you recommend what kind of mics and other things I'd need to tape a show.
Thanks

Well, you'd probably want a condenser, I think (but I know very little)... I thought bootlegs weren't allowed on the FTP? Do I need to read the FAQ again? |

I think ones that are not copyright to FB are allowed only - like ones that were broadcast on radio. |

There are some audience sourced FB shows there, I believe. If that '91 show is still being actively torrent-ed (or whatever) tomorrow, I might be able to get it on my parents' broadband, it's just that I've never succeeded in getting a show, any show, off BitTorrent. I have a full BT file which is supposed to represent Black Francis' '91 show at McCabes, it is supposedly complete, and I have never been able to decompress it. That was a heartbreaker. |

what would the security do if they caught us with recording gear? i mean frank black has said before that he doesn't mind but the venues tend to not allow bootlegers. so would they take your minidisc or whatever off you? i had the same dilema when i saw fugazi, bottled out of trying to record that one |

I've got a minidisc player and a good sony mic designed for md players. I've bootlegged quite a few shows and have been thinking of recording any upcoming Pixies show that I see. |

I got a question. Where the hell did all those bootlegs come from anyway..Did those guys responsible get rights or something, im talking about those low quality bootlegs that obviously were mass produced and sold IE: JaapEdenhall, lemouria, return of the fat man, logn live the surf guitar..how and who did this? |

I'll see what I can do about the first two. I have a friend who's coming with me to Winnipeg and he has a nice MD & mic setup. So I'll see if he wants to get that show. I'll be in Minneapolis for the Fine Line show, but don't know if I'll have access to a recorder. Even if I did, though, I'm not sure that I'd like to be concerned with running a recorder when I know I should just be sitting back and focusing 110% on the band. But if I get a chance to help out, I'll do it. The day after Winnipeg I've got surgery and will be in a hospital bed for at least a day. I'd love to be able to just lay there listening to the concerts from the last two days. I could tell the doctors to not bother with pain killers then.

seems this is how it should be done this tour, so so fast and so easy, none of this mp3 crap. I undestand mp3 isnt crap necessarily, but what is crap is the horrible problem of people taking there mp3, making them wavs and trading them without people saying what they did. Its so prevalent many people dont even know when they have these bogus copies..STG allows that entire process to be avoided
look, breeders fairfax show up in 2 days, a pattern others should follow this tour, get em done, and get em out

what do you think the chances are that we could some how convince the pixies/4ad?? to do something along the lines of http://www.primuslive.com/ which is a great idea, although i think they are just a little over priced.
they offer both flac and mp3 versions, which i think either offer both a compressed and uncompressed or strictly a non compressed version. i even think the uncompressed version should be cheaper. but that's just me. but the primus prices are $10 for mp3 and $13 for flac. which i think is too much. i'm at these prices i'd get a few. but if prices were more along the lines of $5-8 i'd buy all the shows no questions asked and i'd even pre-order them, to help show the demand for these shows. i htink a few other bands have started doing this, which i think is great and about time for soundboard quality. just a thought. i'm still into audience recording cause most have heard have been pretty good too. but if there was a way to gaurantee getting every show recorded, that'd be awesome. |
