[edit]Okay, the new music is now finished. I did piano and vocal melody. If anyone sees any mistakes, whatsoever, even the very slightest, most seemingly-insignificant thing you could possibly imagine, please point it out to me so that I can change it. As the software I used won't allow me to do polyphonic scores, some of the note values may be slightly off, in cases where there is more than one voice in the same hand. Please do your best to ignore this, or even better, fix it if you have software that can do it. I've also uploaded a midi file, that will allow you to open up and edit the actual sheet music if you have software that is capable of such. I would like to kindly request that this not be uploaded to any other website than frankblack.net without authorization from me (I don't care if this page right here is linked to, I just don't want the jpgs themselves uploaded to another website.). The pictures may look a little blurry on your computer screen, but they shouldn't be terribly blurry once they are printed. Enjoy, and feel free, Dean, to put this on the site if you are able to. Here are the links:

Sheet music pdf file: http://www.savefile.com/files3.php?fid=7321839
midi file (it might not play properly, as my software always screws these up): http://www.thefilehut.com/userfiles/adrianf/heartache.mid
Please take note of the * on page 5. This is a mistake on the recording itself. I would assume correct notes should be B and F# |

I just had a thought. Every time a person loads this thread into their browser, those pictures are being accessed. Take the pics off the thread and leave the link. That should "clear the way" so to speak. |

Hmm, now it says the "site" isn't available. I think it's because you haven't created an actual page featuring the pics or links to them. Sorry, man. |

okey-dokey, what I changed it to should now work. Just save the pictures to your computer or view them with the links on each one and they should be the right size.

Oh Ice Cream, edit your 1st reply so it doesn't have that link in it and no one put links straight to the pictures because it said in the terms of service you aren't allowed to do that on message boards and I think that's why it didn't work the first time.

It works quite well now. Seems like you put a lot of work into you transcription. Excellent. |

I'm glad to know it finally works. I made a few minor corrections (well one of them is pretty major) and added lyrics to it so all of that is now up. And please note that on the repeats, it may be played a little different the second time around on the actual CD but I just put repeats to save space and about 3 hours worth of time.

Sounds pretty good on a quick play through, though I have to give it some more time to really learn it and then compare it. Very cool though...

That's cool, now all I need is a piano, thanks.
Edit: what program did you use to make the sheet music? |

I played around with this sight reading off my computer but forgot to print it out.
Note to self: PRINT IT OUT AT HOME.
Anyway, this is very cool and I'd like to see it added to the tabs section and maybe more if we can get them. A Radiohead site Mike found had sheet music for a few tracks like Karma Police and I think it's a pretty cool feature. I'd like to someday get my MIDI working so I could play along and not have to transcribe note-by-note. Then I would post some too...

Derek, did this find it's way to the 'tabs' section with those tabs that Mike did up? We should definitely have this in there and any other piano/alternate music that people can dig up.

Oh, and incidentally, I finally decided I was going to print it out today and learn it. I've got the first page pretty down as of this morning, and it sounds damned solid. Good work!

Whoa, I didn't even see this. I might have read the thread a while ago but i didn't click the link.
That's awesome! looking at just one of the pages I can tell it's grade A sheet music. (not that I read sheet music, but it looks like you did a really fine job.)
Which other tabs from Mike do you mean, Dean? I vaguely remember seeing an Old Heartache tab posted... o, tab, where art thou..

Heh, no, I meant did you post this with the recent update of tabs (I think Mike was responsible for tabbing out a few of them), but obviously not. It is pretty solid music though, and it'd be really cool if we had more. If I had a MIDI setup and some time, I would definitely put a few in there.

Hey, could we get this posted again? I'd like to put it in with the tabs as well as any other instruments that we may have, as long as Derek thinks its a good idea.

Well, I should definitely make some corrections and revisions, as my transcribing skills have DRAMATICALLY improved over the last (exactly) two years. I'll get to work on that and try to post a new one in a couple of days.

Yeah we'll definitely need to post it on the site. It would be great to have some sheet music for piano on FB.net. If you want to transcribe some other songs that would be cool too. I don't know piano well enough to figure out parts and write them out. So, that job it for anyone else who wants to tackle it.

I've got about half of the song done (up to the first guitar solo). I've made a ton of corrections from the old one, some pretty major and some fairly insignificant. I oops'd the track so I can hear the piano perfectly, and I've got it EXACTLY like it is on the record, even the mistakes on the record. Anyways, I should have a lot of time to work on it tomorrow morning and might be able to finish it by then, but I might also decide to do a vocal line, like they have in the songbooks, and maybe even the electric and steel guitar and bass parts (in standard notation, not TABS) and do it like an orchestra score with all the parts together on a page, which would take a lot more time. I haven't made up my mind yet (I'll have to see how difficult it will be).
Does anyone know who's playing the piano (or I should say terrible sounding sampled piano that doesn't deserve to be called a piano) on this song? I don't think it's Rich, because he would probably be on pedal steel, and he can't be switching off because there are times when both instruments play at the same time. Whoever it is, I like his playing. It suits the song very well.

Van Dyke Parks I think, not sure if EDF was in on that track or not but also a possibility. Very excited to see the revised edition... also curious about how you isolated the piano exactly, been looking for a method of doing that effectively forever.
I hope that there will be some other songs coming for piano, it'd be a pretty cool feature to have free online sheet music for FB in addition to our rather exhaustive tab collection. Can't think of another fan site that has either of those things, very exciting!

Well, I don't know if you're familiar with OOPSing (Out Of Phase Stereo)? I didn't isolate it, but I made it where it's much more pronounced and some of the other instruments that would prevent you from hearing it are gone. Anyways, I think what OOPsing does is cut out the center channel and leave just the left and right channels, combining them into one mono channel. To do this, just use an audio editing program and invert either the left or right channel (just one of them, but it doesn't matter which), and then after it is inverted, convert the two stereo channels into a mono channel. On this song, since everything is recorded live, there is a lot of bleeding, so not everything in the center channel disappears, but it helps a lot.
Van Dyke Parks? I thought he just played on Manitoba. It doesn't really sound like his style to me, but it could be.

Looks quite nice, I started playing it the way you've transcribed, I never noticed how high up the intro is... I was playing the left hand bit an octave lower and then WITH the octave below it as well which sounds nice but obviously quite different.
Anyway, thanks for your time, if I ever figure out how to do the midi thing maybe I'll tackle If It Takes All Night. We probably can't post it as a bunch of separate jpegs but maybe one pdf or something. The midi file isn't a bad idea either, may toss that around (though I've never been a big proponent of a synth-vocal lead. I guess if it's just piano, you need something for the spaces though.
I hope we can look forward to more, there may be an official piano-meister spot for you if you'd be into it...
