I was hoping someone here would know!
For the visually lazy, here's what his list says:
All My Ghosts All Over the World Big Red Brackish Boy Cactus Calistan California Bound Chicken Dead Man's Curve Death Horizon The Happening Headache The Holiday Song Horrible Day I Burn Today I Heard Ramona Sing I Want To Live On An Abstract Plain Jane (TNTZC) ?? Los Angeles Manitoba Men in Black Mercy Me Mr. Grieves Motoroller Motorway to Roswell Monkey Gone to Heaven
Page 2: Nimrod's Son Planet of Sound The Sad Punk 666 Space Is Gonna Do Me Good Subbacultcha / D=RXT Superabound The Swimmer Test Pilot Blues The Vanishing Spies Velouria Wave of Mutilation Western Star Where Is My Mind? Who's More Sorry Now? / Nothing Like Honey Whatever Happened To Pong? Wheels Whiskey In Your Shoe
(handwritten): All Around The World The Shrimp Song Burnt Out Rock N Roll Head On
Can anyone help fill in the ?? Looks like "The Liar" but...?
I have to say I'm relieved he didn't play All Around The World. What a boring song. Though it would be funny to do that and All Over The World back to back.
I wish I got to hear all of Western Star, and Motoroller would have been cool, and the big one for me is Whiskey In Your Shoe as I love Devil's Workshop. |

I gotta say Trouble I'm about halfway through your video and it's a really tremendous job you did of capturing the concert.
Would love to hear more of your impressions of the evening if you feel like sharing any that come to mind.
The main thing I am proud of is how easy and discreet it was to be standing 3 feet in front of Frank and recording. Without planning, I had worn this flannel shirt and it has a front pocket. I simply put the phone sticking out of my pocket and stood there. That's it! He may have noticed, but maybe not! And I didn't have to worry about my hands or framing or anything!
I had a lot of thoughts during the show. Some of it pertaining to myself, as I've done a lot of solo shows (back in the day) and also with a band. I love solo shows because in my mind, they emphasize the songwriting more than anything else. It's just a person and an instrument. I love seeing Frank choose from his giant discography and pick out what we can assume are favorite songs. The last discreet solo show he did, the one that debuted Please Don't Go, I believe he also played The Swimmer. It's fascinating to me what songs jump out to him as personal favorites.
I was really staring at his hands and the chord changes and the riffs tucked away in the chord changes and fingering. He kind of makes it look effortless but I could never play most of these songs. Some of my songs are kind of complicated but they're mostly in my comfort zone. I think Frank is underrated as a guitarist.
The audience: very hard to tell what was going on. I heard a lady by the bathroom saying she didn't know who Frank Black was. People cheered and sang along to the Pixies songs, and there was a lack of that during the solo material. I had a hard time gauging if these people were as excited to hear Big Red or All My Ghosts as I was. When he came out and sang I Burn Today, was it just me and a few others who even knew that song? Was anybody but me disappointed he didn't continue Western Star?
I love when Frank is being funny and telling stories and revealing things about the songs and about his life. I think I understand why Pixies don't do that but truthfully, many full bands I see live tell jokes and stories and it's a huge highlight of the show. It's one reason I'm always less enthusiastic to see the Pixies. It does feel like the Pixies version of him is some sort of performance or something, and the solo shows are "the real him." Or perhaps I have it backwards?
I have to admit, when I was playing solo shows, I would do my favorite songs of mine and in a way, I'd feel like my own biggest fan. "I can't believe I'm playing this song!" In my last few years of solo shows I had a list of 100 songs I would print out, and just randomly pick from there, or ask the audience to yell out numbers.
I wonder if Frank feels the same way. On the Teenager podcast he said Superabound is a favorite song, so is he just cathartically happy playing it? He seemed to really be enjoying himself.
Personally I think Space Is Gonna Do Me Good is my favorite on Teenager so I was thrilled to hear it. My wife was happy too which surprised me, I'm not quite sure which songs she remembers from these albums. |

Thanks a lot for the recording. Both actually recording it and sharing it. Are you planning on sharing a lossless version as well?

I just want an album that sounds like this recording and without Dalgety trying to turn them into stadium rock songs. |

I believe Tom has tried to record Frank solo for pixies albums, but they have a rule that all 4 pixies should be on every track

But even if he did that he'd do some shitty processing on his voice or something to make it sound artificial and modern and weird. I can't get over the production of the new album and how weird everything sounds. The drums, the vocals, etc. Something about it is really unappealing to me.
I miss the Catholics sound, especially for songs that sound like Catholics songs. |

I like Tom's processing of vocals way better than Gil's on IC. Music sounded better with Gil? Not even sure.

I could agree with Indie Cindy- not sure how that production came out to be so overproduced sounding but I'd argue Gil's production on 1.0 Pixies albums are way better than anything from the modern Pixies era.. with maybe one caveat being the BTE demos, though I'm not sure how much production work was done on those. |
