Round 16 is over and we have another double elimination.
Final score:
DITS - 4 SMYT - 4 BTE - 1
We are getting deeper into the valley of decision, but like Fitzy, though these albums are so loved it had to come to this.
Round 17 starts now. Enjoy it while you can.
Gone:
Frank Black and the Catholics Cult of Ray Indie Cindy Petit Fours Let The People Speak One More Road for the Hit Honeycomb Paley & Francis Snake Oil Abbabubba Pistolero Devil's Workshop Head Carrier Golem B-Sides Svn Fingers NSE Oddballs FMRM Christmass DITS SMYT
Still surviving:
Come on Pilgrim Surfer Rosa Doolittle Bossanova Trompe Le Monde Frank Black Self-Titled TOTY Black Letter Days Bluefinger Beneath the Eyrie |

I'm gonna vote early this round and go with Beneath the Eyrie.
It's the best of 2.0 by a lot, but that's not saying much.
And I've even enjoyed contemplating it. Is it an alien? A fungus? Something that the Selkie Bride coughed up? I have no idea. But it just does not compare to the others, certainly not the OGs. So there's my vote for this round. Can't wait to see yours. |

I'm torn about the artwork for BTE. When I saw the cover I was a bit confused - what is it?!
But it really needs to be looked at as part of a collection of artwork. Simon Larbalestier has a whole host of artwork he and Vaughan Oliver worked on as part of this project - some of it is absolutely stunning.
There are images here that would make a better cover but taken in context it's all pretty great.

With this in mind I'll vote Bluefinger even though it's a fine cover. |

I love the BTE artwork - beautifully moody and encapsulates the feeling of the album well (dare I say: gothic?). Looks like a mandrake to me (which is referenced in This is My Fate).
For me Black Letter Days is the clear choice. |

Bluefinger for me. I reckon two more rounds and it is going to get impossible. |

I dig the series it does give BTE’s cover context. |

BTE
Please don't vote off BLD. In contrast to BTE or most others, this really captures the mood of the album very well without any ambiguity.

I definitely don't disagree, but I guess I like the artwork of BTE better and it definitely fits in with the Pixies aesthetic. I think for most at this point it's a matter of least loved instead of most disliked.

Round 17 is ending in real time as I tally these votes. And the results are:
BTE - 3 Bluefinger - 4 BLD - 3
Wow! One vote for Bluefinger saved us from another triple massacre. That was scary. Still, sad to see Bluefinger go as the cover is really cool and reminds of that time in my life. Oh well. The circle of life.
It would seem to me that Round 18 will be a head to head showdown between BTE and BLD, unless something weird happens. Voting starts now (Friday) and ends in around 48 hours (Sunday). Good night and good luck.

BLD. A solid cover, but the clear odd man out of the above collage.
Or rather, a solid cover among inspired ones. |

Agree with the poster that says the BLD artwork really captures the feel of the album.
But then so does BTE.
So I am going with Frank Black. |

I've never loved BLD. Why is the image sideways? My vote is to kick off BLD.

This is the part of the game where we start to question one another's sanity.
I am voting BLD as well. The round 18 head to head showoff of BLD and BTE is over and this is the final tally:
BLD - 4 BTE - 3 TLM - 1 Doolittle - 1 FB - 1
Round 19 starts right now!
Gone:

First time seeing Come on Pilgrim I was grossed out
I had an aversion toward carnival life
But in some way, real or hinted and or manufactured
Faking cruelty seemed worse
Like encouraging shit behavior
I hated the monkey image the most.
Doolittle go in peace |

That's a really interesting thought. Thanks for sharing that.
In any case, the album cover would not be nearly as cool if the picture weren't sideways. |

Frank Black - though I could be persuaded to switch to TOTY or Bossanova if it means protecting my beloved BTE which is my third favourite of the bunch. |

CoP is not an attractive cover, but it fits the album and the era well, and has the antiquity argument going for it.
BTE is pretty cool, but looks quite computer animated to me.
Leaning toward BTE, will cast my ballot soon. |
