Chris O’Leary, an author most known for his really amazing writing/scholarship that analyzes the music of David Bowie , has written an article about the music of Pixies. There are a couple interesting facts that I didn’t know before.

-----------------------
Q: Where do Pixies keep their instruments when they're not playing?
A: Debasement.

Wow.

Decent piece with a few interesting insights or regurgitations of long-forgotten pieces of info.

Then, it drops off a cliff toward the end into typical "I spent forever on the start of the story, now I'll wrap up the last several years in a couple of demeaning sentences" approach.

Few amazing, trendsetting bands ever scale the heights of their salad days when reformed years later. However, fewer still achieve the level of consistently impressive and frequently amazing live shows and solid, A-list quality studio recorded tracks that Pixies have in their 2.0 years.

They have continued to strike their own path and break the mold in an entirely different paradigm -- one which factors in their maturity, age, sobriety and resilience.

That inarguable and key reality seems completely lost on this journalist.

I enjoyed reading that. Love the nostalgia.
I don't mind that it skipped 2.0 - not what I sensed the article was about.
Made me wanna listen to all the albums back to back once again.

Did unfortunately skip far too quickly over Bossanova and Trompe apart from the usual complaints.
But for what it was, I enjoyed it...

all i can say, thank god for polio! brian

Can anyone direct us to good treatments of the Bossa Trompe era?

The first three Pixies were great, Bossa and Trompe were even better

The Melvins Buzz Osborne is a fan of Bossanova, good read all round;

Also worth checking out Joey's pick of albums from Quietus too, I don't remember reading it back in 14

This article is great at first but it veers wildly into the nightmare eyeroll that is the "oh yeah and they're still around and arguably one of the most interesting bands in existence today but dur kim left".

I don't understand, as a human being on this planet, why people writing about how the band never made it big, and their albums were reviewed poorly commercially during their time, looks at THE EXACT SAME BAND doing the EXACT SAME THINGS, and says "these albums aren't special and they're just playing the hits" about 2.0.

Like can you not see you're doing the exact same thing you're literally writing about. HELLO?

I don't know, that just irritates the hell out of me. I saw them last year and full on 1/3 of the set was Head Carrier and Indie Cindy, and the crowd ate it up either way because they're still fuckin' awesome.
