Not a fan but it sure sounds rawer and a bit better than modern Pixies records. Producer isn't trying to steal the show here.

I personally don't care much about the loudness wars talk and the focus on compressions, but I will say this Breeders record does sound very lively. I've never loved any of their albums because for me Kim's songwriting doesn't always grab me, but she knows what to do sonically to be sure. And they are probably smart to keep this album lean as a bloated Breeders album at this stage wouldn't be beneficial. Kudos to them for getting it going again and releasing something very solid like All Nerve. I'll be buying the cd later today to show love. |

I'm about 6 songs in. It's fine album. The sound is good. Compression ruins lives.
Very listenable so far. |

There is nothing discernable in this new album from the early Breeders stuff. If someone gave me a copy of this and told me it was a lost recording from the early days and I didn't know otherwise I'd believe it. You couldn't say the same thing about IC or HC. Much better and more Breedersy album than, say, Mountain Battles.
I see they let Jo sing on one of the tracks as well, has she sang before? Is this Kim and Kellie's way of saying sorry for not inviting her to play on the last album maybe? Good track anyway, her English accent lends itself well to the late 90's britpop sound and I'm tempted to speculate wildly at this early stage that Metagoth might be my favourite track on the album. |

I had no idea Jo was so cool. And she's got the whole looks a bit like a guy Justine from Elastica thing going on as well. |

something about this new Breeders record...I don't think it's better than last splash or Pod, but it still a solid record that i think holds up...I don't think I can say that about any Pixies 2.0 record...pixies 2.0 records seem like exercises or rather, sort of going through the motions, and rather bland...i mean, Bagboy is a great track and there are still some good tracks from the 2.0 catalogue, but i don't know, this breeders record has an energy to it, or a passion that I think is lacking in the 2.0 releases...my two cents of course... |

Couple things, Kim seems more meticulous about songwriting than BF does. More precious about it. That's not a compliment or a diss. Also, BF has put out tons of music over the years, so I'd imagine the songwriting well is a bit depleted. Musically it's better produced and stays pretty quirky while Pixies 2.0 is a bit more MOR without enough of the old Pixies weirdness. Overall, Kim has been working up to this moment for a long while now. Good for her. Charles has been pretty nonstop with his craft since forever, and I'm hoping he can muster up enough inspiration to create some great stuff in the future. He is a husband, father and as one myself that will change you and your outlook on things. Kim's life is very different. And she makes it work. |

Oh, and also, Albini. Makes a big difference in not only production style but likely as a judge of the music and ideas. His presence probably forces groups to tighten their shit up. |

I love Kim but she has been making the same record for 30 years now. She knows what she wants and She get’s it. Last Splash is the only one that’s really different. Loving the other 4 though.
5 Breeders records in 30 years The purple tape to Trompe is not even 5 years right?
Frank tries something new almost everytime he steps into a studio Kim just books Albini, if we are really honest It works for both of them, but you can’t really compare them

Saying that Kim has been making the same album for 30 years could be a compliment. 30 years of Surfer or TOTY albums would have been nice. |

Even at her personal low points, Kim has always produced stuff that is worth listening to. Also, Kim was there for that purple tape to Trompe run.. |

Bam Thwok was quite good, although it took me a look back listen to realise that. I didn't much rate it at the time, but in retrospect I think it has more Pixies 1.0 to it than any of Pixies 2.0. Kim wrote Bam thwok, and correct me if I'm wrong but that would make it only her second Pixies song that she wrote? |

Off the top of my head Kim has joint writing credits for both Gigantic and Silver in collaboration with Frank. According to BMI Bam Thwok has the unusual writing team of Kim Deal, Kelley Deal, Linda Mallari (Joey's then wife and Martini's band mate) and Aaron Espinoza (of the band Earlimart who helped The Breeders with some demos). |

Which one of these All Nerve songs could have fit neatly into HC as the token Kim song?
Spacewomen is my favorite, but the Pixies don’t do the beachball thing. |

I wonder if all the love for this Breeders record is related in any way to all the indifference/disapproval the last 2 Pixies albums got. Like all the frustration over BF's evolution has transformed into some Big Big Love for the new Breeders material.
