Thanks Yarbles for the report.
First time I heard a live Tenement Song.
Hoping our man's voice holds up for years to come. |

Sorry I didn't saw your edit on the previous page and was starting to post the links without realizng you were the youtube uploader.
Paz is so off-key on Into the white.
Tenement is good. Bel esprit also.
But they really have issues with their vocals. So off key most of the time.
A big thank you for the uploads !

The vocals do sound a bit.... something.
Fun to see BF bopping around on stage. Looks like he's having a good time. |

Looks like there's many changes in their guitar rigs.
Joey pedalboard is much lighter (and he has been using a Duesenberg guitar as his main guitar for a few months now), BF is back to his Marshall in place of his two Vox, and Paz doesn't use anymore the big bass amp that the Pixies used for many years (didn't they even forced Kim to use it all the time back then while she didn't like it ?). |

I think Paz sounds absolutely fine on Into The White.
I was surprised just how closely she hews to Kim's original vocal intonation and phrasing, actually.
The vocal melody line on that song has always been janky and teetering on the verge of being off-key.

It's great to hear the new songs performed live. 'Tenement Song' sounds wonderful, and of course 'Baal's Back' is fab.
Excited to see them in December... |

I agree totally on this. I thought that was the best version of Into the White live that I've seen or heard in a very long time. Her voice was great, they were in the pocket. |

I might have hearing problems. She sounds totally off sometimes. And more generally, her vocal harmonies with BF are "occasionnaly" painful to hear. Maybe I shouldn't be so picky/grumpy, this is only alternative rock. But Shattuck sounded far better on harmonies. My 2 cents.

Thanks for posting Oona/Gone.
Again, off-pitch harmonies. Do they have problems with their in-ears or something ? Those songs would sound really good without the vocal issues. Or is this the lead guitar being so detuned that gives this impression ?
Thanks again for the videos.

Haven't listened to the album in a good while at this stage but You Might As Well Be Gone still sounds utterly beautiful. Great melody and Joey's brilliant on it. |

Thanks Yarbles for the set list and the videos. Loved the way Oona sounded, even with the unusual vocals.
Probably shouldn't make too much of these setlists having so little from Boss, Trompe, IC, but it is great to hear them play so much from HC.
Would love to read your review of the show. |

I think Paz sings a bit too low, but she sings with the proper "nonchalance" A bit off key, even if the intervals are correct Overall, I like this version :)

Glad they're playing Oona anyway. I was afraid about the fate of this song. My favourite Pixies song usually don't get played at all.

As shaky as some of the new songs sounded on these warmup shows, I'm sure they'll all get better and fall into place. They've been playing Um Chagga Lagga for a while now and that song kills live. |

Tempo on almost all the new songs is kicked up a notch or two on those latest videos from Yarbles' post.
They're leaning hard into proving the forced downtime did not derail the group.
A few of the songs I think don't work as well at a faster tempo. They need to breathe more. Like Tenement Song. FBF can't get in his cool little pre-chorus guitar licks as smoothly at that speed.
I hope they settle into the right grooves as time progresses.
Um Chagga Lagga sounds boss at this hyper pace, though.

I'm really curious about how Talent and Plaster of Paris sounded live. Talent could be a fun uptempo live number, and Plaster would be a lot of fun with the bouncy bassline..... I wish video of those two would show up somewhere... |

Cool, thanks for filming natenate and thanks for posting picpic. Sounds like they have it down pretty good, kinda hard to tell with the loud distortion in the video but it seems like they've got it together. Wish they would've played it again at one of the shows I was at. But maybe they felt confident enough with it that they didn't need to "warm up" with it anymore. |
