No new songs.
Set list and brief notes / thoughts below.
In heaven Queen Ed with long intro Nimrod Cindy Wave surf Your man Bagboy (much better tonight than two nights ago) Jones Isla Gouge Umass Tame (every time i hear them do this i'm like, "that was the best one ever") Snakes Caribou Magdalena Subba Brick Hey Snail 13 Holiday Greens Cactus La La (they had a lot of fun with this, Dave trying to end it but the band kept playing so it kept going on and on, very cool) Mind Vamos (which I affectionately call Hamos because of the Joey Hamming-it-up factor which never gets old, though I'd much rather see him do Fazer Eyes any day of the week) Pantomime thing, Dave self-heals this time, Frank is actually a very good pantomimer Wave Debaser
Another great show, the hits and not much else. Nothing from Bossanova and only 1 from Trompe. Not sure if this is Frank and the Pixies' decision or some unseen hand. I love it either way, but wouldn't you just love to hear him tear into Manta Ray or something?
Finally, the venue - I hardly go to BK so my first time in this theater, beautiful place, seemed quieter than Beacon. Definitely wilder crowd, reefer in the air, lots of crazy dancing and some standing on the arm rests. Constantly getting hit on by the dude next to me was not my favorite part of the night. He even brought me back a $20 cup of bourbon which I impolitely refused. The crowd was really into the big songs from where I was seated.
Always a privilege to see the man in action, accompanied by his band = amazing. |

Yes, it was a memorable show - HUGE, truly spectacular renovated old theater. Almost unbelievable. Felt like a dream walking out. The whole show was good, but some of the songs that I thought sounded particularly good were Silver Snail, break my body, Tame (really nice echo type of thing going on with the vocals), Gouge away, Greens and Blues, and Debaser (again - really good vocals..).
Also, the lights were great.
Must have been a challenge to mix the sound in such a huge space... |
