Saw 'Pixies' for the first time since Brixton Academy 04 last night. It was mostly great. Something not quite right vocally with 'Bagboy and 'Indy Cindy'. Love these 2 songs on the album, but didn't cut it last night. 'Greens and Blues' was awesome and deserved more than the polite applause it received. In fact it appeared that most people politely embraced the new stuff, really just waiting for the next old classic to be thrown out. Although maybe that's the same everywhere? Still think the new stuff is great.
I see in Dublin there was slight negativity around the lack of communication with the fans. Of all the times i've seen 'Pixies, 'Frank Black' and 'the Catholics' that's always been the deal!! Sure he throws in the odd quirky comment, but it's always been about the music with him. All in all, great night!! |

i think it's the same everywhere. Festival audiences generally wants the old, more simple, more dynamic songs. I watched many concerts and you can tell the audience is sleeping during songs like Bagboy, Indie, Snakes, Green,... The peak of the show is generally when the "good old ones" are performed... Nimrod, Isla, Ed,...
Same for most of the Bossa / Trompe catalog, which they don't even bother to play anymore (songs liks Ana, Blown Away, Havalina... Made their comeback a few weeks ago and now seems to have been discarded). They probably know by the audience reaction that those are not working live. Too bad, if they planned to make a concert consisting of only Bossa/Trompe/new song,I'll be in the audience jumping up and down during the whole show. (But probably the only one. Sigh)

Wow ! Great to see songs like Tame & River Euphrates making their comeback...
Good thing the setlist is upgraded a bit.
Paz sounds good on River Euphrates ! And Frank is top notch.
