Nice. Paz has a funny voice. Very Frank Black-ish song. Sounds like Toty.

It sounds like a Grand Duchy (totally) outtake.

Sounds more like a random FB tune, with a -big- touch of Santiago epicness in the background.

edit: it also sound less compressed than previous tracks, which is quite pleasant !

Wow I like that, it's the first new pixies song that I want to listen again and again.
The sound is not very clear but the spirit is good.
It's not super ambitious (a little indy pop song a bit like Velvety) but it sounds like something, AT LAST !!!!

AND it's the first new pixies new song that keeps playing in my head after i stop listening to it.
It's so cool they didnt include that in the EP's, so now they can start something good.

It does stick in your head. "He gave you conditions..." is on a loop in mine. Solid tune, and the loose feel of it is heartening. More please.

Yes, indeed. My guess is that they were both recorded live for the basics (bass, drums, two guitars).

The continous howling guitar from Joey on verses reminds me of Break My Body

I like the sound of Dave's snare too:)
The song is fun, more uptempo than most on the album
The vocals are a bit cheeky and FBesque,
The song does really stick in your head ("all the requirements" has a great scansion, and "I'll be your peaceful dove" is an amusing image)
But I still prefer the Pixies when the songwriting is more ambitious, less direct, and the production a bit more sophisticated (though not too much)

I think its cool that they are giving it out as a free download, but I think the song is getting overrated here based on the comments. Seems like a real throwaway song to me, which is fine given that it was released as a free single. I just don't see how it could be favoured to 75% of Indie Cindy.

I'm strangely glad this download, and things like the Greens and Blues video, do not get their own email blasts from pixiesmusic.com. These are genuine surprises. And it's great. At this rate, could the next LP be less than a year away?

Seems properly rated to me, as an enjoyable song, by most here. Not a throwaway in my eyes at all. Already I prefer it to Snakes/Another Toe/Ring the Bell/Silver Snail/Greens and Blues.

"Women of War" is lightweight and frivolous and kinda silly. And that's why I like it.

Anyone know what the first line of the second verse says? It is something like:

I know you are ???
But if you need some love
Be my soldier lover
And I'll be your peaceful dove
