It's not really how it works when you're a band. And it's hard to explain to people, especially if they get emotionally attached to one person."

like i said before, i don't think that people were so much upset with the fact that they let her go, i think they were more upset/annoyed with the perceived tactless manner in which it was handled. i'm still looking forward to 2014. let's hope they can keep the train on the tracks.

that's right, lofiscifi. passive aggression is a pet peeve. a Pet Peeve, fellow forum members. not to be taken lightly, those (Pet Peeves, not Forum Members. Forum Members are to be taken with a grain of fissile and a pinch cock (kok), and a whole bunch of pot to make it all that much more fun).
in a perfect world, Shattuck would have been told kindly but directly by the band members that her time as fill-in bassist was up, and i'd have no idea about how any of it went down, nor would i know that i might care.

Initially the whole thing was a bit prickly for me to digest, my biggest fear being the Pixies would go the same way as the Smashing Pumpkins in terms of lineups and credibility but I believe the respect for their legacy and confidence in new material should ensure this doesnt happen.
However, this notion that the musicians/actors/sportspersons/artists we admire certify their iconic status further by being likeable, noble or a role model is laughable.
Their WORK is what I am interested in, not how they interact with people, present themselves or live their lives.
Sex and Drugs has always been synonymous with Rock and Roll, sometimes (curiously) the story is more celebrated than the music itself, the music needs the story as much as the story needs the music - it is beneficial to the artist/media.
I just find it strange there is a need for the people we admire to be likeable, charming and noble...in part celebrity culture demands that. |

Ok, friends. Let me say here in these shadowy, discreet halls that no one here really knows or understands the circumstances of the recent events (or any other for that matter). If I'm doing interviews to promote a show and the journo asks me something I have to answer. I don't want to HAVE to issue publicity statements about things that are more appropriate left in private. Many of us issue statements and sentiments via the social networking platforms; it is the modern way; it does not mean that a person has to participate in that conversation that is stated there on this enormous bathroom wall we call the internet. If my band isn't answering the questions on people's minds and this bothers you, ask yourself the following: do Pixies owe me an answer to the burning questions? And, what are my assumptions about the band based on? Do I have all of the information? And to come full circle, if I don't have all the information do The Pixies owe me this precious information? Sometimes a person is willing to appear a fool or an asshole over small things in order to not discuss what is not appropriate to discuss in public. You'll have to take my word for it. And if you don't want to that's ok, I can't do anything about that. People talk a lot of shite, and they don't know of what they speak.

To be fair to most at FB.net, i don't think any real fans want the soap opera version (not saying there might have been one, but that's what the publications are salivating about drumming up)

The very same virus that makes me want to buy everything related to blckfrncs (that includes buying a record from the coronet premiers from the DITS merch table) makes me want to discuss everything blckfrncs.
It's an obsession. Music comes first of course. And private matters are not for us to fiscuss or obsess about. This whole story falls somewhere in between, I guess.

Once again, all I can draw the attention on is that the concept of Pop Music became very much boring and annoying in the digital age...
Everyone should try to find Pixies somewhere else and evolve as individuals.
