The bestest ever ever? Haha, I guess the money is good though. Hope they find a bassist they like and can stick around for awhile. |

I'm noticing a lot of resistance to the idea of the Pixies trying out different bassists. Are we all a lot of mommies who just want to see their baby the Pixies find another nice girl and settle down again? I think one of the biggest problems the Pixies faced in their original incarnation was that most of them had never been in a real band before. They "got married" too young and never "played the field". Let the Pixies play the field a bit this time....

If you are Paz, what are the positives and negatives to touring with the Pixies? How about joining the band outright? I'm just curious as she is a fairly well known bassist and taking this on ain't necessarily an easy task. Looking forward to hearing her speak on all this, though with the Kim S. stuff maybe she'll be tight lipped for awhile. |

With the few clips we were able to hear with her, one can note that she is beautifully emulating the voice of kim Deal which is crucial to keep the texture of Pixies alive. Why is "Bagboy" the most Pixies sounding song from the new batch (and probably the best)? Because of the KD emulation. Pixies became a concept or an idea, it has to follow it's original direction in term of texture. Otherwise I'd rather go for Frank Black. There is this quote by David Thomas that I laud everywhere and all the time:
"A band is an idea, not a collection of specific people identified by an historical association."
Any member of Pixies can be replaced as long as their fonction is kept. ANY

Perhaps a bit but not as bad as Frank's timing. |

I don't mind that her voice is different, she's just ever so slightly off pitch, it very distracting
I think Franks timing is always a bit off on this song. I wish he'd just sing the original version |

You're totally right, just like Village People. It's all pop entertainment, expect that indie bands such as Pixies are basically for clever jerks with a huge potencial of self-estime (and with a very limited amount of hindsight)... Humour being merely an option, not to be confused with cynicism... ;)

I really disapprove this idea of a band as a brand of replaceable people. Even the Spice Girls are identified as specific people. Pixies were founded by Charles and Joey. It's their band (no offense to David, who is a crucial member though). As long as BF and Joey play together, they're entitled to call themselves Pixies, provided they keep the mood and intention (not necessarily the sound or equipment)

No way.
Some bands can survive the loss of a member but others just carry on in name only. I think chemistry is sometimes underrated by people in relation to bands. I disagree with Dave Thomas. |

I always loved Mark E. Smith's remark about The Fall, a band whose line-up has changed about 7,000 times:
"If it's me and your granny on bongos, it's The Fall." |

Agree. Pixies is the songwriting genius/artistic capbilities of BF that were miles away from about anything else at the time, + Joey amazing, inventive, amazingly simple/yet brillant guitar work.
Pixies could probably still "be" Pixies with another drummer or bassist (Although I'd prefer it never happens), but certainly not without BF/JS combo.
I'm talking about the band here.
As for the songs. Well, the songs belong to everyone, of course. I don't mind if X or Y band is performing Pixies tunes. That's the idea of popular music. But that's off-topic. |

What's off topic is to talk about "the scenes and not the spectacle". Anyway, is there a good Pixies forum somewhere?
No I'm kidding, you're all fan-tastic... Poetry isn't meant to be found and shared in forums. Or is it?

Purpose of online message boards: sharing opinions (sometimes with people having a different one)
Purpose of the General Pixies discussion area: general Pixies topics.
Purpose of "Paz Lenchantin is the Pixies new bass player topic": discussing about current the band whereabout and the bass player thing.
I don't have anything agains Poetry. But why don't you create a Poetry topic where you could freely express yourself ?

Of course everyone is hearing music differently. That's probably what is exciting.
That would be pretty boring if everyone could hear (or understand) things the same way. IMO.
