These videos looked great. I was at the show tonight (the second Olympia show) and while there were some amazing songs for the hardcore Pixies fans (Levitate Me, I've Been Tired) I think a lot of people were disgruntled that there was no Debaser, Tame, Wave of Mutilation, Monkey Gone to Heaven, Here Comes Your Man or Gouge Away. That's six very big songs to completely exclude from a set altogether. |

Both reviews from the first night only.
To be honest, the more I've been thinking about the set last night the more I feel a little aggrieved about the lack of the six songs listed above. Initially I was thinking that after the huge Doolittle tour a few years ago that they just didn't want to play those songs anymore (which would be understandable) but in fact they played six songs from Doolittle (just not the six best songs). I appreciate that playing the same songs every night must get tiresome for any band but they should still have split it up a little. Debaser, Gouge, HCYM one night, Wave, Monkey and Tame the next. That sort of thing.
I can't say I minded too much (hearing songs like I've Been Tired was incredible) but I certainly know some of my friends did (and these aren't even "fair weather" fans or anything, just people who would rather hear Debaser than something outrageously inferior like Brick is Red). |

Having seen two Doolittle shows already I wasn't too aggrieved at the lack of the 'big' songs (besides Tame, as I recently came to the realisation I prefer the more shouty version of the live performance to the maniacal screaming of the original studio version. And Doolittle's such a strong album it's not like the other songs are disappointments live; Lovering singing an extended La La Love You was one of my favourite concert moments ever, Number 13 Baby rocked while Crackity Jones was fucking brilliant. I'd also say Hey is a "bigger" (more popular) song than Wave, Tame and Gouge Away.

Don't worry, you'll see them next year. You know, I was at the first night in Paris a couple of months ago. It was very fine... Way too loud, conservative crowd or drunk people. You have to queue like cows under the rain... It's only rock'n roll, you know. It was fine, very fine.

Thanks Joey Joe... nothing against Kim S, but I hope the original Kim is waiting in a box to spring out and rejoin! ;) |
