"There's definitely 'EP2'" says guitarist Joey Santiago, "but the rest is a secret."

That's quite a significant quote. That and Black Francis retweeting a few people asking for albums recently makes you think just a little bit there might be albums to follow.

Yeah, that's sort of saying 'after EP2 we're going to release an album'. That's cool, I'm ok with any format they choose to serve us more Pixies.

Joey also said something about an open door for Kim D., not sure which interview though.

Being responsible to one's sick parents is far more superior than to satisfy our need for new music from some of our favorite artists.Commiting to a world tour knowing the ones who gave you life and cared for you as a fragile baby depend more than ever on you is a task that not everybody can DEAL with and for that I consider Kim and Kelley troopers for putting family 1st.And as persons with true feelings I thank Charles,Joey and Dave for understanding because they also dealt with losses in their lives and still soldiered on to give us new music. Many thanks to Kim Shattuck for doing an amazing job too!

Rumor has it that one of the upcoming releases will be a little mechanical monkey that plays the songs when you push a button. Comes with a download.

Unconfirmed rumor. Take with a grain of salt.

Kim is a class act, she moved back.to Ohio for her mother and father, who is also ill
I'm not entirely convinced that that's the main reason Kim isn't on the new recordings. Nobody said it had anything to do with it, besides Mojo. But maybe I missed a quote

The Breeders are still touring as we speak.

Yes they are but close to USA Territory where it be easier for them to re-schedule if something happens to the Deal family members.I'm talking from my own experience here and I hope you can understand. My older brother moved to the USA from Puerto Rico and they did very good in the Boston scene playing all the great clubs Pixies played. We had a blast until a sad call gave the worst news ever...I was on vacation and my older brother,he had his most important show to play the next day

Yeah, well, and how does that work out for Kim Shattuck?

Charles:
Hey, Kim. You see, the other Kim was having a bad hair day so she jumped ship god knows for how long. Pfff... women. Right? Shrug. So, we thought that maybe you could fill in for her for a while. Of course, as soon as she comes back which could be any day, you're out the door. What do you say?

Kim Shattuck:
I... I... Wow... Cool! I mean, sure! OMG! (hyperventilates)

Unlikely. Who wants to work with that sword hanging over their head? I believe Shattuck has been assured that Deal is not coming back.

I ventured that guess myself here in the forum and someone pointed this out to me:

http://wearsthetrousers.com/2012/11/kim-deal-solo-interview-2012-part-1/

quote:
In the spring of 2011, Kim Deal's patience finally snapped. After eight years of living with her parents, helping to take care of her mother as her Alzheimer's progressed and her memory worsened, the intensity of the situation simply grew too much for her. Having been resistant to asking for outside help up to that point, when her father started to show signs of dementia too, it dawned on Kim that coping alone was no longer really an option. She needed a break. "I was looking at him, looking at this house, and it hit me," she says, her voice dropping low into the phone. "I was like, fuck this! I'm getting the fuck out of here! I felt like I was being overwhelmed by the situation, you know?"

Having made the necessary arrangements to keep her parents comfortable, Kim resolved to take a year away from Dayton to enable her to focus on music again.

Kim S. could have been invited to join for just one (very long) tour. But I get your point.

I'm sure Kim S. has a contract. Even if Kim v1.0 were to return, they'd have to buy out Kim S's contract.

Like I said before, I believe that Kim D. quit because she can't stand the sight of Thompson, although I concede there may be another reason, or reasons. Has it ever occurred to anyone that Kelley and/or Josephine/Jim really needed the money, and Kim is helping them out?

For all her faults, and she's got plenty, Deal does seem to genuinely care for people close to her.

Kim Shattuck was the 1st to tell her fans that her role as Pixies bassist was NOT the end of The Muffs.

From reading/listening to the interviews it seems Charles is glad the Kim Deal issue has finally been dealt with (he did try to get rid of her in 1990 and 1991), although Joey and Dave seem pretty upset and I reckon they genuinely miss her (and were also against getting rid of her when she wouldn't do a new album more recently). Charles can take the Pixies forward as an autocratic vehicle for his Frank Black/Black Francis type songs with no opposition from Kim Deal (I'm sure Kim S is in his back pocket, much like the session guys in Axl Roses version of GNR are yes men) and she can retreat to the safety of classic-era Breeders and her Breeders & Pixies millions.

Good theory. Very plausible.

Not to say I told you so, but... well actually yeah, to say I told you so, I predicted on a few threads that I expected them to get impatient and scrap the EP idea at some point and just release everything or re-record etc on an album...

I didn't think they (especially Bf) could sit on that many new songs till Christmas 2014. He'll write another 20 before then and need somewhere to put them.
