Really? I have it on cassette tape but never really listened to it.

You forgot PJ Harvey's first album "Dry", which I don't have anymore but which I listened to a million times while in high school. Also:
Morphine - Good
Nick Cave - Henry's Dream
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85–92
and another personal favorite: Daisy Chainsaw - Eleventeen. Oh how I love this record!

1992 really is the year I got into indie music. Means a lot to me.

Dirty - Sonic Youth
The End of Silence - Henry Rollins
Fully Completely - Tragically Hip
Joshua Judges Ruth - Lyle Lovett
Red Heaven - Throwing Muses

I didn't even know I could like country music that wasn't by Hank Williams
or Patsy Cline. I have intended to but have not, in 21 years, made an
attempt to find another Lyle Lovett album to buy. I will change that soon.

These are the ones I still listen to. There's quite a lot from 1992 that I don't listen to anymore. 1992 marked the end of post-Pixies era excitement.

Throwing Muses - Red Heaven
Throwing Muses - The Curse
Tom Waits - Bone Machine
P.J. Harvey - Dry & Dry Demos
Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Henry`s Dream
The Young Gods - T.V. Sky
Babes In Toyland - Fontanelle

Loved these! Copper Blue still sounds great today, Nonsuch was underrated.

I also vote for:

Morphine - Good
Sugarcubes - Stick Around for Joy
Cardiacs - Heaven Born and Ever Bright
Buffalo Tom - Let Me Come Over

Although I can't bear to listen to REM these days, loved Automatic For the People at the time.

aside from PJ Harvey 1992 seems like a pretty lackluster year

I admittedly had to check some "alternative / indie" lists to remind myself. not a lot came up

liked the Screaming Trees record. Sweet Oblivion. not their best tho

couldn't stand Alice in Chains then, can't stand em now

green star member since 2006. smb?

Rage Against The Machine is the stand out album for me. My top 10 would be made up of the following (no particular order)

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Henry's Dream
PJ Harvey - Dry
Faith No More - Angel Dust
L7 - Bricks Are Heavy
Lou Reed - Magic And Loss
Sonic Youth - Dirty
Sugar - Copper Blue
Throwing Muses - Red Heaven
The House of Love - Babe Rainbow

One to finally catch up on thanks. Reding Paul Auster and the like put me off a lot of New York stuff of that time. I'd rather Raymond Carver. Who's the West Coast Lou Reed?

Someone should do this for 1972. It would be interesting.

Not necessarily the best, just what I own.

Pavement - Slanted & Enchanted
Helmet - Meantime
Stone Temple Pilot - Core
Rage Against the Machine
Suicidal Tendencies - The Art of Rebellion
Mucky Pup - Lemonade
McAuley Schenker Group - MSG

1992 was NOT a good year for my record collection. It finally got better when I purchased Slanted & Enchanted for the first time 10 years later when it was re-issued as a double cd.

1992 was a much better year for me personally and professionally.
I met my future wife (Jan 9).
Our first concert together was the Pixies at the Ritz (Feb 5).
Sometime during the year we got engaged. I'm sure she remembers the date and would probably tell me I got the year wrong.
On Jun 30 I started a career in law enforcement. I've been lucky to get promoted to detective and now detective 2nd grade.
Retirement and a move to a warm weather location is on the horizon.

I think 1992 was a pretty good year overall, but a lot of the albums listed (SY Dirty, RATM etc.) are Ok/good but I can’t pretend that I am inclined to listen to them now. Also, after much trying I don’t like Tom Waits.

I like Pavement but like Thomas only years afterwards, anyone from the UK who says they liked them in 1992 is almost certainly lying.

nobody ever said you had to be listening to the albums in the year they were released; heck, half of us weren't even alive for the 1972 releases.

i was late to the Pavement party too, maybe 95ish(?) and only really had a passing interest until around 99 then i listened to them quite intently (S&E is my fave). RATM got a lot of play back then but not so much now - SY i put on all the time - even got the 4LP deluxe edition of Dirty (that and Washing MAchine are probably my faves from SY). Sugar - love em now loved them then. Social D didnt get into until much later...became a Therapy? fan AT Reading '93....
