This is some cool shit. The best interview so far. This why I still look at this forum. I would never find all these interviews myself.

Nope, this forum is as vital as ever. Thanks Arm Arm Arm!
Remember the interviews during the first and second Doolittle Aniversary Tours. Those were really boring? Now if only Kim Deal would open up and tell her part of the story.

Well, that was an interesting interview. As for Kim, what is she going to say? "I'm not recording any more Pixies because I hate that fucker."
It's like I've said all along. Thompson eventually came around and admitted that it wasn't just him. His band mates fleshed out his ideas and visions. They helped make the Pixies the Pixies. Kim, on the other hand, doesn't seem to be able to forgive and forget. She did the reunions because the money was good, and it allows her to continue with her own music hobbies. Even the money or recognition isn't enough to incite her to continue with the Pixies. She's not going to give him the satisfaction. You know what they say about a woman scorned? There's your proof. |

I disagree. Her leaving had to do with different musical interests. The Breeders are, and have been for decades, really far removed from Pixies music. Albini knew this, which is one reason why he worked with her. I don't even know what her music is now. Last Splash was the closest thing to the Pixies she made, and its only similarity was the poppy element to the songs. And some superficial guitar sounds.
Yes, she probably still doesn't like Thompson a whole lot, but that wasn't why she abandoned ship. It is really depressing trying to make music you don't like. |

Sorry, but you're wrong. Kim has given a number of interviews during the reunion and not once did she say she was hesitant to do new Pixies because of musical differences. In 2008 she came right out and said it in a radio interview: “not with somebody who … no absolutely not. God, no. I’d rather record with my mother than record one with him.” You don't have to be good at reading through the lines to understand what's going on there. This has got nothing to do with musical differences.
It seems that a lot of you have little or no experience with members of the fairer sex. Once they write off a dude they used to like, or have respect for, there's no going back.
As for the Breeders, Pod seemed to be very heavily influenced by the Pixies. Last Splash wasn't very close to the Pixies sound. I thought it was uneven, it has it moments but most of it is throwaway pop influenced silliness.
Albini is a snake. Albini was interested in more than just Kim's musical talents, if you know what I mean. There's a reason Thompson never worked with Albini again.
There was a lot of conjecture here as to why the Pixies weren't recording new material. The popular consensus was because they feared damaging their legacy. I pointed out the actual reason: Kim hates Thompson's guts. For that I got a lot of hate. I've been vindicated by recent revelations.
Will new Pixies resonate with their fans? It could. Kim S. has a bubbly engaging personality, like Kim D. did back in the day before she burnt out on drugs/alcohol and turned into a weird, old cat-lady. If the Pixies current lineup can produce some interesting new music, and get a bit of radio play, they'll probably be around for a while. |

Actually yes. Why not? If that's how she feels. Which for a part may be true, but I think there's more to it. Why did she agree in the first place and had to leave immediately.

You make some interesting points, but you sure know how to troll.

Oh and Champ. The Breeders are much closer to the Pixies than most of Franks solo career. In my opinion.

I am familiar with Deals comments, but the reality is that she did try to record. If she hated Thompson so much I doubt she would have even attempted it, or have gone on with the reunion for 9 years.
Just listen to what Kim is doing now. It sounds nothing like Pixies. Occam's razor. I can't even listen to Pod. I have tried and failed many times. The only Pixieish sound is their slightly out of tune guitars and raw sound. |

Yeah there is that quirkiness that both Pixies and Deal have in bulk. |

Oh, it's ice to hear new music from Kelley Deal, kind of sounds familiar but it's always a pleasure to hear her voice. I really like her couple of albums with the KD 2000.
