Second night at the El Rey was awesome, my favorite of the 3 LA shows so far. Show just finished, here's what was played
Big New Prinz (The Fall Cover) Head on Bone machine I'm Amazed Monkey gone to heaven Bagboy Ana Hey Indie Cindy Dead Broken face What goes Boom River Euphrates Brick is red Debaser Ive been Tired Velouria Here comes your man La la love you Nimrod's Son Is She Weird Blue Eyed Hexe Wave of mutilation Greens and blues Holiday song Vamos In heaven/andro queen Where is my mind
Loved the new old songs added to the list, and the end trio of In Heaven/Andro Queen/Where is my Mind was perfect. Loved it. |

Setlist looks awesome. How'd Greens and Blues sound? |

Greens and Blues sounded good, I like it a little more each time I hear it. Hoping the recorded version sounds good when it's released. Which brings up a point, I think all the new songs sound better live. I would love it if the band would just release a well recorded live version of each new track eventually. The production on the EP-1 really hinders the songs in my opinion.
Highlights of this show for me were hearing so much Bossanova. Ana, Velouria, and Is She Weird all sounded fantastic. River Euphrates may have been my favorite song of the night, the band was just so loud and relentless on it. But the closing three songs were a perfect ender in my opinion. In Heaven started out with a pulsating bass sample in the background, very moody and went with the lighting very well. Awesome to hear Black sing this one again as opposed to Kim Deal singing it since the reunion. The song blended right into Andro Queen and was a perfect flow. Lots of atmosphere from Joey on this one, very cool. And then to end it with Where is My Mind with the entire crowd singing the ooh oohs together in unison was just a perfect ending. Such an amazing show, the best yet of the 3 LA shows. I say bring on #4! |

I thought there would be more TLM songs on this tour. Still, it's a nice setlist. Good to see River Euphrates on it. I absolutely love that song. Also, La La Love You with KimS! Ana! Is She Weird! Andro Queen! You lucky sob.

Last night was a little more Trompe Le Monde heavy, with Head On, U-Mass, Distance Equals Rate Times Time, Subbacultcha and Planet of Sound getting played. Tonight seemed a little more Bossanova centric. I'm sure we'll get more as the tour goes on, I'm loving how different the set lists have been from night to night compared to the old Doolittle tour. |

I am a little shocked by how strained and pitchy Frank's voice sounds. No encore, again? |

Last songs of the evening, I guess that's understandable. Good thing they have a few days to get some rest before the Paris gig :)
Still, great vid.

True, and I think Greens and Blues can be a Pixies-classic if the production is good. The song has big potential

Well, he is almost 50. He's screaming more often and with more ferocity than he has in decades - maybe ever (see Hexe). He's probably absolutely torching his vocal cords. My completely uninformed take on it is that they can't be doing these back to back to back sets like this if he intends to push the envelope so hard every night. Just ask Harry Nilsson or Ian Anderson how well that works out. Sure hope he takes care of himself and starts allowing proper recovery time.

Those clips sound okay to me. Still, if Frank sounds off to you, while some of the above could be true, it also may be because these are new songs for the band (even some of the old songs are new songs for them since they're new to the post-reunion sets). As the tour goes on, the performances will only get tighter. |

I didn't actually listen to it, just at work on my lunch break and was reading. When I listened to Havalina last night from 9/9 though he sounded really shot, and that was early in the set if the set list was right. Just some thoughts.

Actually really like this performance of 'Here Comes Your Man'. Frank has trouble with the melody, stops the song, and then launches back into one of the most spirited performances I've seen of it.

Not singing in Esperanto live? Noooo!!!! That's the highlight for me in the studio version.

Sounds like they have new energy with the new songs and Kim being in the band. This could bode well for future Pixies releases. |

I'm just curious if any more recording with Kim S. will be done, or if everything that will be coming out on future EPs has already been recorded/produced from the same sessions with Gil Norton last year. |

I watched Big New Prinz from this show. Being unfamiliar with the original I can't speak to fealty but I enjoyed this quite a bit. Musically it reminded me of the Bluefinger tour, i could see that band doing this song. I enjoyed the tempo changes. I don't have an opinion on her singing, but Kim's bass playing sounded good to me, as well as one can tell from an online clip. |
