Does anyone here know anything about that?
I was just wondering, let's say I enter a design into a competition and I win, but part of the deal is that they then own the copyright, does this mean I also own retain some copyright or have I lost it all?
If I redesign a design from all the parts, but change it slightly does that then mean I reclaim the copyright to that, and if so how much dissimilar must be it? |

For the first question: I would directly ask them/consult the rules to see what it says; maybe winning is agreeing to transfer the copyright. Maybe you're surrendering your rights just by entering. See: work for hire.
Don't know about the second.
Good Luck

Thanks. I think you only give up the copyright if you win, but not sure if that's the case for all. I'm just waiting for the results of a few I entered and Graffiti Kings just chose their winner + 5 finalists. I really makes me wonder about some of these things, they either don't care and just pick entries at random or have absolutely no concept of what defines good art. I thought I was in with a fairly good chance of at least getting into the 5 runner's up but they really have picked a bland lot over mine and a few others that were really good, I'm just bemused by it all. They usually at least pick something decent but there is one that has been picked that it just rubbish! I don't want to sound arrogant about it, but it really is total crap. Most of them are alright, one or two are quite good but this is one is like wtf, come on, their pulling our legs.

Was hoping for at least a bit of expo on their facebook site with millions of followers with this, but hey ho..
Anyway just waiting to see if Brandi Carlile wants to buy one of my best designs for a poxy $200, because I think it would be really apt for another invite. That would probably work out at less than $1 for ever hour I worked on it! :-o Wont even cover the first session of physio I needed for the RSI on my right hand lol |
