Wasn't he in The Damned too at one stage? And don't forget Hawkwind - that's him singing on 'Silver Machine'!

I love Lemmy, although his obsession with collecting nazi memorabilia is a little dodgy, ethically speaking.

Somehow I think I'd leave that off my resumé.

AFAIK he played a show or two and appeared on the B-side "Ballroom Blitz".

End of derailment.

It's not just Lemmy. Apparently David Bowie and Mick Jagger collect the stuff as well. It's my understanding that Ace Frehley, of KISS, has a huge collection of the stuff. Gene Simmons (true name Chaim Weitz) once told a story about how a drunken Ace Frehley showed up at his house dressed in a SS uniform and started Sieg Heiling when he(Gene) opened the door. Gene Simmons' mother is a Holocaust survivor. Elvis Costello once referred to Ray Charles as a "blind, ignorant, nigger".

BTW, both Dave Lovering and Joey Santiago have gun collections.

You see, my obsessions aren't exclusive to the Pixies.

Ron Asheton too. Dunno if it was more than just a weird interest.

Really? Didn't FB made some comment about not being a fan of guns when talking about Bullet? Out of the four of them, I actually imagine Kim Deal as possibly the one with the most experience of guns, given that she's a tough Ohio chick and all!

P.S. I mean hunting etc., not getting into gang fights or anything. ;)

Yeah wasn't aware of that either. It takes away a few cool points from them.

Can we have some specifics? I need to know who aligns with my political beliefs so I can decide whether I still like their music.

I wasn't suggesting that.

Sorry, I didn't mean to single you out.

This very thread exceeds my acceptable "etiquette of fandom." Insinuations that Ron Asheton was a closet Nazi (yes, I've seen footage of the collection he had in house). And certain Pixies aren't cool because they own guns. (Oh but wait, Joey tweeted bad about the NRA -- maybe he hasn't gone off the deep end yet!!!)

I wasn't insinuating he was a Nazi - I just mentioned his collection and guessed it was 'just a weird interest'. In hindsight 'unusual' would have been a better word than 'weird'. By all accounts Ron Asheton was a lovely fellow; unfortunately I don't think he gained the recognition he deserved for being an amazing guitarist.

As for the gun thing, I half-jokingly said they lose cool points. Hardly a complete dismissal of their music or credibility now was it?

Edit: Ron's interest wasn't that private just in case people are wondering

I saw a clip of Mickey Dolenz smoking a cigarette when I was young. Maybe it was from Head. I thought then that he was very naughty.

Yep, agree with you there. I mentioned that just to throw something else into the discussion. There's been enough poison on this forum in recent months.

i think people should separate an artists art from their personal life. sometimes it is hard not to let it influence you. while i don't approve of some statements he's made in his personal life, i admire Mel Gibson's work in such films as THE BEAVER. also, I know from his arrest record that he is a fan of Cazadores tequila (they found a half full bottle on his passenger seat), which, when I'm having a margarita, is my tequila of choice as well
