Also, brilliant song choice - Almost Fare is off the new album and it has an fantastically catchy riff. There better be recordings. |

Wow. BF + J Mascis, that's something I'd love to see.

Lou Barlow's best moments of 2012:
quote: #2 dinosaur jr 'you're living all over me' 25 year celebration show , NYC december.. people kept saying 'can you believe it's been 25 years since that record was released??' yes, yes i can.. easily.. so much happened since the release of that record..many bands, more band mates, lotsa fights, lotsa love..children! babies were born in the interim, human children ..so , i -can- believe it ..what REALLY surprised me was Frank Black singing one of the new dinosaur jr tunes ( 'almost there' (? , it really is impossible to figure out the names of J's songs) - the one i like to call the 'birkenstock tune' ) AND dinosaur jr playing a pixies song ('tame') with francis on vocals.. yea.. that part blew me away.. after years of fighting it i am ready to be a pixies fan, i will resist no longer.. he's got a serious set of lungs and learned our song like a proper musician.. much respect.. that ridiculous anniversary show was the #2 highlight of my year..or maybe it was number #1 ..i can't really rate events like this , once my mind is blown it's all equal, if you know what i mean..
I was thinking it was a bit odd for BF to do a Dino show considering some of Barlow's old comments but this is nice. Now he should kiss and make up with Grant Hart, maybe buy him some yoghurt.
This comment from the article made me chuckle too:

I like what I hear Almost Fare is quite a good Dinosaur song (some chords remind me of In Bloom by Nirvana, dunno why), but the way Charles sings it is quite refreshing and promising. It sounds like he found back his teenager voice from 20 years ago, which I much prefer to the majority of his singing since (technically speaking, not melodically). I mean his voice has somehow grown old, as if too much forced upon, as in Captain Pasty, Hermaphroditos, or Black Suit, just to name a few. If his juvenile voice is back, even only from time to time, then it's great news in case a new Pixies album comes out.

Aside from the Catholics and that benefit show with 3/4 of the Pixies, and that time with Placebo and that other time with Glen Hansard, aside from all of those times, was this the only time Frank played a Pixies song without the Pixies?
Did you like it? What did you think of Mascis' guitar playing during the song.

Thanks. I like that version of Vamos with Flea, too bad he didn't solo for longer though. I loved how Frank tells Joey to let Flea solo; I'm assuming that's what he tells him... Good stuff! |

He played Wave of Mutilation with Kristin Hersh a few months ago and did Cactus with some other people at the Mark Mulcahy benefit (right after a brilliant cover of Bill Jocko). |
