...in two days might be the first three states in the US to legalise cannabis for recreational purposes.
Got a bit of a debate going on about it here, with the vast majority of Guardian readers being in support, and only a few numpties against, quoting the same tired old myths about it.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/nov/03/states-poised-to-legalise-cannabis?commentpage=1#end-of-comments
If you want to know the truth about this amazing plant then watch this-

It's quite an interesting choice of a date for the vote, I'm wondering if it's a cunning tactic being employed by the pro-cannabis lobby to effectively reduce the number of prohibitionists turning out to vote, as they will likely be inclined to neglect this in favour of the bigger election?
I'm all in favour of that, I actually don't think they have a right to have a voice on the matter anyway, but this is the ridiculous situation that the world has gotten itself into, so let's vote on it.
I sincerely hope that at least one passes this as it will be a huge step forward and offer hope that finally the beginning of the end of cannabis prohibition is on the horizon.
Anyone who feels the need to start pandering the same tired of cliches and myths about it, consider the following.
A friend of mine who had bipolar disorder killed herself last year. She got depressed, couldn't get high, started binging on high carb foods, put on a lot of weight, became even more depressed and then took her own life.
Both my friend and I agree that if she could just have gotten a regular supply of medical cannabis she might still be around today. In the time I knew her I watched her deteriorate from a happy, bubbly person to one who was practically catatonic.
Cannabis could have helped her. But it is illegal. She is dead because of the prohibition laws on cannabis.
So anyone who wants to go around suggesting anything like I'm lazy, stupid, crazy or selfish for wanting to have the right to use a natural plant that is meant to be used, then you and I ARE going to fall out.
I couldn't personally give a fucking toss who wins between Obama and Romney on tuesday, they are both idiots, warmongering lying scumbags who are getting in the way of progress.
Team Oregon, Washington and Colorado!

I'm sad to say your friend sounds like a microcosm of the USA.

Hopefully things will start to change now. I for one have had more than enough of this bullshit.
What we effectively have is an unhealthy societal structure that is imposed on us by the state, and then when people wish to self medicate using a natural plant that man has used for thousands of years the state turns round and says you can't! people are being locked up for years and given tougher sentences than murderers and rapists for Christ sake! What is the fucking sense in that?
It's absolutely unbelievable, and sick. And I'm done arguing this point to people and have them turn round and repeat the same prejudiced myths about it to me.
I'd really like to just relax and enjoy the last few decades/years of my life without constantly having to deal with this crap every day.
One person from Oregon on the Guardian site is a cannabis user and she says she is going to vote NO because she doesn't want the price to go up! I can see where she is coming from but that really doesn't help me or any of the poor bastards who are still in prison for it.
I mean round here there's plenty about, but most of it is poor quality. I just wasted another £20 on a piece that doesn't burn right and barely has any effect. It just smells and looks like hash, it's probably not even hash.
If you have money and know the right people though you can get decent weed, but the problem is I don't. I know people, but they don't want to risk dealing small amounts to me in case they get caught, it increases the risk for them so they just deal large amounts to people with money.
And so there you have the government, don't have the balls to legalise it even though THEY KNOW the truth about it. It's a vote loser for them, at the moment, and a whole host of other bullshit reasons not to take action. And they are probably saying, well we know people are still doing it, but we'll just keep it illegal because if we make it legal then it sends out the wrong message bla bla bla, and then there's the dealers who wont deal to me, so I'm stuck in the middle off all the bullshit and can't score anything.
People say that it causes psychosis and that is partly true, but mostly crap. What is actually happening there is people who are predisposed to schitzophrenia are consciously or unconsciously self medicating with it. The cannabis is actually helping them, but of course a lot of the cannabis sold is poor quality.
The point is, the reason why it is having negative effects on people is directly because of prohibition. Scientists have isolated one of the main constituents of cannabis CBD to actually have anti-psychotic properties, but the fact that it is illegal is resulting in massive amounts of THC high/CBD low cannabis being produced and consumed. THC is also good for you, but the point here is the balance of each and all the other chemicals in it that's most important. Legalise it and let the people who know what they are doing and proper quality cannabis will be made available to people, and over time this will I know have a very positive effect on society overall, in many different ways. It has been shown to have anti cancer properties, help to maintain a healthy cardiovascular system and help sufferers of a whole host of different ailments.
Tax it, and the money can be put directly into health care instead of going into the pockets of violent drugs cartels.
It's a total no brainer.
