I thought the old bands thread needed a little sister thread

I'll start with this one, from a band I have already raved about. I love the last track on their latest album Set Something On Fire. I love the screeching wailing bassy guitars and also the way the make the guitars and vocals sound just a little bit out of tune. Who says you need to be in tune all the time? People who like order in their lives, can't count, like to build things, like to boast about building things, like to get drunk and fall over

I like also the talky vocals in it. It's totally borrowed from the Pixies, but if they can pull off a Pixies rip off that's this good then I'd like to encourage more of this, if that's at all possible in this century. That talky vocals and wailing guitars, the loud quiet combo, it just works. I feel sorry for all the other intelligent species in the universe who never hear this music, if they have ears and can hear sound in the same range that we can. Maybe if they come to our planet in our lifetimes. Maybe they are out there 'now' travelling from solar system to solar system on our galactic doorstep looking for other life, not knowing that we are here?

Killed By 9V Batteries - maybe the best name for a band I have heard in the last ten years - Set Something On Fire. A track I repeatedly listen to sometimes when I am drunk or high

Brian and I just had this discussion. My suggestion to him was The Liptonians (apparently quite difficult to find) and his to me was Mister Heavenly.

Thanks Dean and Brian. I had a look on youtube but didn't find anything that grabbed me particularly. Liptons reminded me of Spoon a bit, and the other one the beatles? Was alright, post up some links to something you think represents them that you think I might like

This is Ringo Deathstarr, a new shoe gaze band from Texas or something. I think they are awesome and I keep revisiting their music when I come across it. they have a great sound, not very original, but they pull it off well and are also it seems a pretty solid live band

Thanks. That's just what I have been needing all this time, an app for my tablet to help me discover how to find new music.

Yeah I bought Rabbit Habits when it came out on iTunes. It's a fun album. And Ty Segall, also good stuff. Surfer Blood and Liars are OK.

Divine Fits

Britt Daniel (Spoon) + Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade, Handsome Furs) + Sam Brown (New Bomb Turks), USA, Indie, Rock, Pop

This is really good this album actually, should appeal to Spoon fans.

Just heard about this band called Swearin'. They sound halfway between Magnapop and Kim Deal, and their songs aren't bad at all.

They remind me a bit of Dinosaur Jr (track 2) anyway. Track 3 reminds me of Sykosonics, who remind me of The Breeders

Snoozer is my favourite song of theirs but can't find it anywhere
