| Thought this had gone unnoticed, sorry for bringing up old news. Interesting collaboration though. |

Isaac Brock on BF! (This is eleven years old but I just stumbled across it..)
Frank Black, "The Vanishing Spies"
Isaac Brock: Not one of my favorite songs off that record, but it's not bad. His solo albums are kind of hit-or-miss. At first, I felt like it was kind of wanky in a weird way, and then after I listened to it, I was like, "This is fucking great." Most of the songs on Teenager Of The Year were pretty damn good, like that song "Headache." That's a fuckin' great song. Probably the reason I bought the record—actually, I was gonna buy the record whether there's any good songs on it or not. I fuckin' love that guy. I haven't bought the last couple he's done. I'm sure I will. I haven't really had time to be in a record store buying shit for a while, to be honest.

Thanks to The Maharal for linking this, great interview!
I definitely felt something similar with The Vanishing Spies. Listening to the cassette on my car tapedeck in 1994, I used to think, "Man this song just throws off the pace of the whole album" or something like that. It was the first song by fbf that I just did not like. Now of course I love it. It still feels a bit incongruous to the first four songs of TOTY, but in a good way.
And cool to see him plugging Dylan and the Surfers. |

Can't remember what I thought of it at first but I know that for about ten years now I have been using the phrase "that's just how some things do not materialize" on a very regular basis.
And what a guitar solo towards the end, wow!

| Anyone remember a dutch or german tv crew visiting FB & The C in the studio during their later years? I saw this but can't find it. Also, I seem to recall they made a video for Robert Onion. Anyone ever see it? |

| Heh, the last couple of days I have been blasting some TMBG. I noticed they're due to come here in the autumn and play Flood in its entirety so I must snap up the tickets soon. I will check out that podcast episode soon too, thanks. |

Wow! What an amazing Jumping Beans!
And totally agree with you Ziggy! Solo is superior so far on that one |

Love 'Jumping Beans'. Those solo acoustic versions are superior to the full band version, I feel.
Great performance! The video quality is surprisingly good. Seems like it was shot last year.

quote: Elsewhere there’s a restaging of Smith’s play Hey! Luciani: The Life and Codex of John Paul I, and comedian Adam Buxton contributes a short film including a previously unseen interview with Black Francis in which the Pixies frontman sings a snippet of Totally Wired: it’s more Dick Van Dyke than Mark E Smith. The latter probably wouldn’t have appreciated this. When I interviewed him in 2015, I informed him that Pixies had been opening gigs with a cover of his song New Big Prinz, and rather than be flattered, he replied: “I hate the fucking Pixies, I can’t stand them.”
Gonna message Adam to release this snippet / interview. |
