Who knows what Perry Farrell may know about what the Pixies are up to, but he's been caught tweeting in this story I saw on slicingupeyeballs.com. Thought I'd pass it along...
Pixies in the studio? Perry Farrell suggests they are, tweeting, ‘Pixies r recording’
Since reuniting in 2004, the Pixies have released a grand total of two new tracks — one a new song (“Bam Thwok”), the other a Warren Zevon cover (“Ain’t That Pretty At All”) — despite fans’ increasing calls for the band to not just keep touring the old stuff, but record a new album, as well. But could that finally be happening?
Last night, Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell replied to a tweet from @leCultVult — who wrote, “@perryfarrell back in the day the cool kids at my high school it was all about Jane’s Addiction and the Pixies” — by writing, “Still is Pixies r recording.”
So did Farrell just reveal that the Pixies are in the studio? Several followers immediately tweeted at him for clarification, but Farrell did not respond and has not addressed it on Twitter again.
Since nearly as long as the Pixies have been back together, there’s been talk of a new album, with convention wisdom being that bassist Kim Deal, who wrote “Bam Thowk,” being the key hold-out. When Slicing Up Eyeballs interviewed guitarist Joey Santiago last fall, he said the band was talking about making an album, but that it was, “just still in the chit-chat phase.” Nevertheless, he said he wanted to record again with the Pixies: “You know, I’d like to give it a shot, just to see what we’d come out with. Certainly, we don’t have to put it out if it sucks.”
Since wrapping up their Doolittle tours last fall, the Pixies have announced no new plans.

I really doubt it, not unless they've got a different bass player. Deal has repeatedly stated that she will not participate in any new Pixies project.
This announcement seems to fit a tired old pattern. Rumors are started about the Pixies recording new material, it starts a buzz, and then they announce some tour, or a new box set, or Black announces a new solo project, but new material never happens. |

Well the production doesn't bother me but I hate the way he crapped all over Nausea so much, I almost never listen to Los Angeles anymore. I don't want no fucking hippie organ shit on my punk records.

I always skipped (fast forward) Nausea. It sounds so droning. Never really liked it. My favorite is still 'More Fun in the New World.' I'd go see a 30th anniversary show for 'MFitNW.' Sign me up.

I sent Joey the article on the Perry F twitter statement and he posted this crytic reply on his FB:
WTF?!!! So the article goes on to say...
"while it seems drummer David Lovering and guitarist Joey Santiago would be keen"

| A new Pixies album could be great, so long as FB takes his time writing the songs, rehearsing the hell out of them and polishes them adequately. I don't want to see a rushed FB solo type album, that just won't do the Pixies justice. There is no reason they can't do it again. But they probably would have to spend a lot of time together for it to work. |

Kim, Dave and Joe live in LA. Charles moved back to Massachusetts from Oregon recently. I'll believe they are recording new material when all 4 are the same coast. |

| Well I've heard from various sources that they are all in LA together, o have been at various times in 2012. And they are more like colleagues than friends so the only reason they would be hanging out is if they are doing something Pixies related. And since they are not touring and they are rumored to be making new music then I can only deduce they are putting the sixth album together. It is about time as their respective solo careers have been pretty average or non existent for too long. |

Dave and Joe never had solo careers. Thompson put out a lot of stuff, but none of it even came close to the Pixies. Kim's solo career took off like a rocket, and detonated, never to be seen again. |

| I have it! Finally I have definitive proof that the Pixies are indeed in the process of recording a new record. I tricked Joey into admitting it on twitter. I tweeted 'any substance to the current rumours flying around that the Pixies are recording a new album? If YES then please DONOT reply' and (so far anyway) he has failed to repsond. So there we have it. I wonder what it will be called? |

| Good point. I was just thinking to myself there, why hasn't Joey done more stuff with other people asides from with Frank and his own solo projects? i think heis a pretty good guitarist. Is he? Or is he just a second lead/synth to back up Frank? Maybe he just has a sound but can't really do much more. There was a rumour the Pixies might be also getting into some film soundtrack more recently + films can sometimes take many years to complete for all manner of reasons, triple equilateral triangular dot character maybe all this speculation if you can call it that is leading up to some soundtrack or involvement with an upcoming film score in some way? Just some thoughts |

I thought his guitar work in The Everybody album was pretty damn good. Hope he continues with that, or adds a proper singer to the fray.
Are you on about the Tarantino film rumours? That was just the NME being idiots and misinterpreting something innocuous BF said. |
