Our bowling team name was FTW but when the intern entered our name in the computer, we came out as WTF - and have been for the past 18 months :)
As for FB & The C's there is a box-set coming out soon isn't there? I think there is just as much unfinished business with them as there was/is with Pixies!

so there's no animosity there? these guys played together for years, getting better an tighter and more awesome, explored various genres, and then.... frank decided to ditch them for his old band and some new guys. i just hope things are all good between them so they can maybe, hopefully someday tour again.

When last I spoke with Charles, he seemed to be on good terms with the Catholics and we spoke about what each of them is up to these days. I believe it was more to do with life pulling them all in different directions and two of the Catholics having kids that really precipitated the break up. They did some pretty long hours back in the day, and yes, Catholics shows were consistently my favourite although that first Pixies reunion show was one of the best of my life.

I agree the Catholics were a real treat live. When Dave Philips and Rich Gilbert were both part of the line up i loved it.
Alas i never got to see the Catholics during the Lyle workman phase, that would have been special.
I also remember reading that a few of the band started getting fustrated with the live to two track method. It would obviously take a huge amount of rehearsal and preparation to get perfect. I honestly think those records sound amazing though. Particularly DITS\ DW\ BLD and SMYT.
Wow what a bunch of consecutive albums. Really really special. Loved that band. Hopefully we'll see them all on stage again.
On a side note i saw their last show in Sheperds Bush empire in London.
Last gig of the tour with a stand in drummer. Great show. |

I really loved the Catholics shows I'd seen, the way they'd plow from one song to another, Frank's singing and howling rising out of the mix of guitars and drums, was amazing. It was like watching the pure essence of a bar band. I think they did a great job covering the Pixies and that Dog in the Sand Tour...wow. 30 + songs a night give or take.
It's strange, the Pixies were generally unappreciated but have now, relatively speaking, been at last recognized by a larger group of people for their musical inventiveness. I wonder if the Catholics time will come, when new ears will find their albums without knowing of the Pixies, listening to their records and live bootlegs without even knowing of the Pixies connection.
Either way, I'm grateful I had the chance to see them when I did. |

McDave is a school teacher, I believe. I don't recall what Scott is up to, and Dave Phillips is playing with other groups.

| I can't see the Catholics ever getting the recognition they deserve in the way the Pixies have. They were never "darlings" in the way the Pixies were to so many in the late '80s. Almost all FB fans loved the Pixies, but only the most hardcore Pixies fans are keen on the Catholics. Also the fact they didn't have a girl in the Catholics eliminates some of the universal appeal of the Pixies IMHO. |

That was at a place called Robert's Western World.....Rich Gilbert still performs there several times a week.
