His best pop song
channeling the early 60s beatles and in production aswell
has just an amazingly different sound to the rest of the album , i just love the drums and acoustic and his voice is up there!
one of the first songs of his I learnt on guitar and my mind was spinning at that sublime key change a the end.
genius
fav line: i was counting the trees, until a day when there was one. i hoped beneath, asleep, is where that you had been..."

This one reminds me of Los Angeles, in that they're both much more accessible than most of his songs. They're the songs you can point to when people say, "Frank WHO?" |

I got kinda annoyed at Wikipedia or Last.fm or whichever biography stated that this was a 'surprise hit' for college radio. It's a ruddy fantastic indie pop song, of course it should have been a hit!
I remember in the week or two before the 2009 BBF gig in Dublin (which included the wonderful precore) I was really loving just about everything Frank Black-related but Headache in particular was really striking me as a divinely ebullient pop song, and in a moment of extreme drunkenness that may well have been the happiest I've ever had I was talking to a friend and struggling to find the superlatives that could appropriately sum up just how much love I had for the song. Sheer happiness.
Don't play it as often these days but I'll always have time for it. LOVE the part where FB adopts a slightly seedy voice and says "Well I found you.. maybe you can help me - and I can help you [majestic drum bit before the chorus]".
Also, I think the video is my favourite music video ever.
Superb. |

I came across Pitchfork's 100 best videos of the 90s the other day and this featured near the bottom end. Hope BF can go back to creating/starring in these kind of vidoes; as much as I like the home made ones he's been doing they lack the coolness of Headache, Los Angeles, etc. |

Woah, I'd love to have that (loose) claim to fame. One of my favourite moments in film / video is the chainsaw cutting of the giant aspirin.
Does he still have the aspirin (aspirins?)? I'd pay top dollar. Preferably Euro though. |
