I presume that Headache video must have been the first public performance with Dave and Scott. Miracle Legion are great, if theres a consolation for no Catholics tour, Polaris are touring this year!

Edit:
Found this performance from 2009 of FB with Ray Neal for the Ciao My Shining Star concert;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmuU3vZRG_8

Also just found out Mark Mulcahy did backing vocals for 'Radio Lizards' from Christmass album.

If I order the box set from Amazon am I not going to get the bonus disc you get with the pledge music version?

I just read the track-list for the bonus disc "True Blue" and saw that Western Star is on there.

Interesting ... I did not think a previously fully-formed song would be demoed again for the next album. Are there any other examples? I can't think of any at the moment. I know Velvety and Modern Age were re-done, but the originals were never complete versions ...

I'm pretty sure I heard an early version of 'I'll Be Blue' that was more in the style of the first 2 catholics albums.

No piano, more guitar and a slightly quicker tempo, can't remember how I came across it or when it was recorded but to my mind was between Pistolero and DITS.

Also Humboldt County Massacre, originally B-side for All My Ghosts single, was another version on SSMVGD.

Perhaps it was used as a warm up song or to demo a feel for the new album?

The bonus disc is also mentioned on Amazon.
www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00M4QNOYC

I don't think True Blue is a PledgeMusic exclusive. All box sets have seven discs, no matter where you buy it from.

It was recorded around the same time (at the very same time?) as the self titled Catholics album and was released as a freebie on the website eMusic where they sold the album digitally (the first album by a "major artist" to be commercially released on MP3!)

Amazon.com makes no mention of it yet which was why I asked:

Just noticed the significance of the release date of the Box set - April 6th.

Not only Easter Monday but also the big mans 50th.

The resurrection of the Catholics, alive once again in the form of this box set is truly a gift and I look forward to unboxing this easter egg.

I hope he has a great party on resurrection Sunday...my oh my where has the time gone.

Another brief update on Pledge Music:

“I’ll Be Blue”

This song is a slightly antagonistic response to a certain type of audience member who is hellbent on the so-called “dancing bear show”.

And another:

“Jumping Beans”
This song is from a pre-Catholics era but we performed it from time to time. I think it might involve space travel as a subject matter. I’m still looking for the perfect version.

Found an early review of the box set that is quite positive;

http://www.contactmusic.com/music/frank-black-and-the-catholics-complete-recordings

Was also reading an interview from DITS era and found the info on Changing of the Guards interesting, sounds awesome! maybe the version he was talking about with sax will be the unreleased version?

https://play.google.com/store/search?q=frank%20black%20catholics&c=music

Price mistake?

That's an amazing price if true. I went to the link and it seems like it's for the box set, not just a download or something.

Google Music only sells 320kbps MP3s, which you can download DRM-free. I have purchased other music from Google in the past and have been happy with the sound quality.

Wow, that price is incredibly low. Looking at the link (in UK) box set is £5.49 yet BLD is £7.99...surely that must be wrong?

If it is a pricing error pretty sure Google Play will reserve the right to cancel and refund orders prior to release.

I took a punt at that price - the confirmation email reads:

Pre-Order date: 29-Mar-2015
Projected availability date: 20-Apr-2015

Note: Google will cancel your order if the final price changes.

Still worth a try!

pledgemusic now says this:

fulfillment due date changes:
- launched with 06 april, 2015
- pledged when it was 06 april, 2015
- currently set to 30 april, 2015

(i'm in europe, so maybe the due date is different, compared to the states.)

Release date is supposed to be today...

No announcements. Is this being held back or shelved again?

OK didn't realise it had been pushed out to 30th April if that is the case

This has happened to other people, yes.

Another review of the boxset, not taking any notice of the score but reads very positive;

http://www.bellinghamherald.com/2015/04/07/4227740/sound-affects-music-reviews-and.html

"If the box set celebrates the band's legacy one song at a time, this final unified collection, recorded in the same time and place, might seem out of place. But it's just another way for Black to slip away just as we've grasped his approach. Even if he had other higher high-water marks in his career outside his work with the Catholics, "The Complete Discography" suggests he pulled that slip away move most consistently, if most subtly, with this band and on these songs"

AccessPass Update 08 April, 2015
Stream of “How You Went So Far” and new box set release date...

As an added bonus for those of you who have pre-ordered the Frank Black And The Catholics Complete Recordings boxset via PledgeMusic, here’s a stream of the first studio take of “How You Went So Far”, which does not feature on the boxset – or on “Black Letter Days”. We hope you enjoy it.

Whilst we have your attention, we’d like to inform you that due to extended manufacture timelines, the release of the Frank Black And The Catholics Complete Recordings boxset has gone back 2 weeks, meaning that the new release date is now APRIL 20th. We apologise for this slight delay, but promise that it’ll be well worth the wait.

Thanks

On my "Orders" page, it still says 30 April, though.
