Does anyone know when we can expect FB's next album?
I think I'm right that he's spent some time in Nashville recently - was this for recording? Frank's so prolific I'd be amazed if something new wasn't heading our way before too long. |

Yeah, the next will be Grand Duchy which I thiiiink is coming out January/February/March-ish. Hopefully if the Paley/Francis collaboration is an album there wont be too big of a gap between the two (Love Paley/Francis songs together, can't say I'm the biggest Duchy fan). |

I could do without the Duchy - not my cup of tea. That's great the we may have a little Nashville style coming back, I was just talking to my girlfriend the other day about that and I even posted a request for more Nashville stuff on Black's facebook. Gotta love it.

Personally, I'm very happy with the Black Francis switch. I've loved Bluefinger, Svn Fngrs, Nigmegen, The Golem, and Nonstoperotik. It's been a nice bolt of energy in his career. Mind you I loved alt-country era Frank Black (Dog in the Sand, Bad Letter Days and Show Me Your Tears), but its nice seeing him get back in touch with his art-punk side. Seems like he's almost pulling a Neil Young, where his Crazy Horse and Folk/Country personas can exist side by side. For example the Golem sounded more Franky, Nonstoperotik was total Francis, the Paley collaboration is Franky, and his Grand Duchy songs tend to be Francisy. So really it doesnt have to be one or the other for a series of years or albums, he seems to be able to switch between different ways of writing depending on the project or mood he happens to be in.
